My design for the Hawking class starship

Solarbaby

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I designed this around the time of Voyager beginning. I don't use 3D software. I created this version in paint and photoshop CS3.

This ship is a deep space science ship. It has 2 twin navigational deflectors on either side of the saucer section posioned on the aft platform above the warp nacelles.

I took inspiration from several of my favourite ships and tried to tie them into one. Initallially it was going to be to the Miranda class what the Galaxy class was to the constitution class.

I loved the neck of the galaxy class and have included that at the aft of the ship. I loved the oberth's warp engine being connected to the primary hull. I also love the runabout and at the aft top of my ship the engineering section resembes it. I thought Voyagers hull was so sleek and cool when I first saw it so I went for an Intrepid style hull. The twin navigational deflectors are a nod to the Miranada class. It had black rectangles on the aft top section behind the bridge and underneath the roll bar. I don't what they were but I liked the look.

The purpose of twin navigational deflectors is to optimise wormhole technology by being able to channel power through both dishes. Similar to the Midas array- but I came up the idea way before Voyager. I'd love feedback. I will create other angles as I go along. Any 3D modellers interested in my design are welcome to turn it a mesh

Oh and I named this ship after She-Ra's horse

Any other images (top, front)? So far so good. The tiny bridge nip looks a little off though. Is that the bridge or is it below it?

No other angle yet but I will post some. I thought the bridge was to scale. It's only a small ship crew of 140. So the bridge isn't going to be massive. I'll have a look next time I edit it. Thats not a finished version

Thanks for the Kudos.

Indeed, it's a nice design. It's blends the elements of the classes you've said inspired you, but without looking like a horrible kitbash, instead something of it's own. Excellent work :techman:

Any views on the rear perhaps?

I'm liking the general redundancy factor of the main components (navigational deflectors, impulse engines etc.) for your ship. ;)

Would be cool to see this as a 3D model :techman:

Thanks. I'm glad you like it. I hope to do one from behind the ship at and angle underneath but it's really hard to get the perspective right

A quick question, are you planning on adding additional surface details to the rear section/secondary hull, or were you leaving it relatively plain, to avoid the hull looking too 'busy'?

As to that beauty shot, it's excellent. It shows how solid the ship is, very few obvious structural 'weak points', which I like very much :techman:

Thanks. I forgot to mention i took some inspiration for the aft part from the defiant. But I didn't want to copy the armoured turtle look.

I made this image using Adobe flash CS4. I only learned how to use it 5 days ago. Its very good for making designs but I'm still working on the shading

I do intend to add more surface detail at some point
