Wal-Mart dumps vets photos

Bloodwhiner

Many Wal-Mart stores set up a bulletin board to honor military members both past and present. The boards became popular during the early days of the Iraq war and remain so even today.

At least until Wal-Mart ordered the photos removed. they did not fit the new upscale image the discount chain is hoping to form.

Needless to say vets are starting to take exception.

This strikes me as some corporate weinie forgetting what made Wal-Mart a success -- the connection with the common person.

That's not what made them a success. What made them a success is that they sell dirt-cheap, foreign made goods and operate pretty much everywhere, often forcing out competition.

Fuck Wal-Mart.

They dump vets' photos, they're dumping the vets themselves, I don't care what they say.

The store manager said that the wall didn't fit with the store's "clean, uncluttered look"? He had better enjoy his clean, uncluttered FACE while he still has one.

It seems rather tasteless to have a war memorial in a supermarket in the first place.

It's more tasteless to REMOVE it.

If they'd never had the memorial in the first place, that would be one thing. But by removing it like they did, they spat in the faces of every veteran. :(

Maybe they could fund a memorial elsewhere or make a donation to an association that works with homeless veterans or something?

Fat chance of that ever happening. You're expecting something like altruism, coming from WAL-MART of all places? :guffaw:

Remember, this is the same company that RESOLD toys which had been donated to help needy kids. You expect them to now give a damn about vets?

Why would they even start doing that? It never occurred to them that they may eventually have to take them down and that that might cause a stir?

Emphasis mine. Are they fucking kidding me?

No, but I expect they have a PR department. ;)

What blows me away is how I can usually find everything I need for a lot cheaper at OTHER places. Walmart is fucking expensive around here, especially for groceries.

I can usually find what I need *at my own store*. Not only do I get the employee discount, but it's only a mile away. And there, the clientele is slightly more upscale, and by that I mean the trailers they live in are usually double- as opposed to single-wide. :p

Plus, our management actually cares about us and doesn't abuse us to slavery-like conditions.

If they are going to get rid of the vet photos, they need to replace 'em with a big 6' tall framed photo of Shatner.

No, Shatner, holding a picture of Robau with a sombrero.

They took down something they had put up? I'm fine with that. Tasteless and probably a bad move but it's their decision.

New image? One of the Wal-Marts in my area looks like a natural disaster hit it with all the scary people and less-than-clean aisles with stuff scattered all over the place.

Walmart is trying to look upscale?!?! All the Walmarts in my area are crowded filthy places full of scary ugly people! Not to mention the fact that you have to park half a mile away to find an open spot if you don't go at 9 in the morning...
