A Nightmare on Elm Street trailer (Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy)

I'll reserve judgment because The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was halfway decent.. but Friday the 13th was the worst film I've seen in over a year.

Say what you will about Friday the 13th but it had the best sex scene I've ever seen in a horror film ever. And that's all that matters.

It looks pretty good. I agree with the sentiment that it doesn't seem to show anything new, in fact it looks like a much closer remake to the older movies than is "normal" for these kind of remakes.

That's fine actually. I think a back to basics approach is kind of what's needed.

Ugh, did they really need to bring back the red and green sweater and fedora? I was hoping for whole new look for Freddy. Something a lot less campy and played out.
If memory serves, I think they darkened him down for "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" with a black trench coat and a less mechanical glove. Don't remember exactly how effective that was, it's been a while.
Still, as someone else pointed out, it's part of what makes Freddy a recognisable character. It's not just the burns and the claws, it's the whole package.
Plus if you're going to totally re-invent a character's look and persona then you might as well come up with something totally original, otherwise it's just cashing in on a name.

That'd be like getting rid of Jason's hockey mask or Superman's red S.

I realize they're iconic, but that doesn't mean it also isn't cheesy as hell. Especially when I look at that outfit today.

And at least the hockey mask looks kind of sinister on it's own. The red and green christmas sweater and Indiana Jones fedora? Not so much.

Besides, to me the CONCEPT behind the Nightmare series is strong enough that it doesn't really need the silly costume. The burnt face and glove are good enough for me.

LOL

That was a sweet scene. I actually thought that movie was good. What was absolutely HORRID was My Bloody Valentine. I wanted to pound a hammer into my skull it was so stupid. Padelecki kicked the crap out of Ackles in their respective movies.

I didn't care for the new makeup, and his "evil" voice isn't good enough.

The look Krueger had in New Nightmare was pretty good, though I prefer the original glove.

You know, for the longest time I didn't know Krueger's sweater was red and green. I always thought the green was black.

I'm a fan of the series with my faves being parts 1, 3, 4, Freddy's Dead and Freddy Vs. Jason. This reboot/remake of the franchise should bring the series back on it's feet.

Not all horror remakes are bad, some can be good or great like these ones:

The Thing.
The Fly.
The Blob.
Dawn of the Dead.
The Hills Have Eyes.
The Last House on The Left.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978.
The Ring.
My Bloody Valentine 3D.
King Kong (2005).

all good examples.
