And yes of course ~ you lose an arm wrestle against Mrs Plec, what chance would a punny English girl have?

I'd let you arm wrestle me any day, K. ;)

Not only that, but you'd win.

You're on big boy ~ and you buy the beers afterwards ;)

If I get lucky and manage a win, though, you gotta come with me to Yankee Stadium and participate in this. ;)

(Two things about that clip: 1) Please forgive the extremely crude comments that YouTube users left. :( 2) I'm IN that clip, somewhere. I was there! :D )

You know I'm not going to click that because it's going to be baseball .
As long as you come to MotoGP with me!

I could understand if you were restoring a classic muscle car. This Town and Country restoration ... i just don't get. I wish you the best in it and i want pictures.

I personally love having my 2004 Nissan Sentra.

I can see this line of logic: the vehicle he's working on is one of the most common in the USA. Parts are plentiful, and I would think, fairly cheap. If you have the skill, the tools, and the time, you can get a lot of vehicle for your effort and save thousands $$$ to boot.
A lot of work, for sure. Beyond my current skill, or patience, I'm not sure which. Both I guess. :)

Indeed. The kicker is the transmission. This brand is famous for it's transmission issues. However I am a Motherfucking Engineer and all-around Mechanical Dood so I am thinking I can fix the underlying issues and get a nice used "luxury van" to tool around in.

Indeed. It's a bit of a learning curve for me but I'm hoping that this will enhance my understanding of modern automotive technology.

What year is the van again? And do you have a Tech1/Tech2 to access the OBD? Then again, you can now just use a laptop with the right software and proper pin-connecter instead of worrying about the hardware.

I have a Mobius box on order to talk to the engine so I can figure out why the CEL comes on when I accelerate above 40.

Symptom chart indicates it might be the "speed sensor" on the transmission, I got a replacement right next to my laptop.

We'll see. :)

I like the Saturn S-wagon I've been keeping on the road. One day I'd like to do a diesel modification to run on grease - extra tank, extra cooling hoses and fuel lines, bit of this and that. A Jetta will get 100mpg's with such a setup.

Can you jam VW's 1.8 TDI in a Saturn? Get a machine shop to make you new mounts. Cram a 6-speed Getrag tranny on it.

Seriously, certain modifications to a car are worth it, others a just dumb.

Sell the Saturn and buy a Jetta with the 1.8 TDI and start from there.

Saturn makes diesels? WTF?

aside from VW I'm not sure any automakers sell diesel cars in the US
people usually think of diesel as trucks only . . .

Audi - A3 TDI (but they're owned by VW so they don't count)
Mercedes Benz - E320 Bluetec, R320 Bluetec, ML320 Bluetec
BMW - 335D

Mahindra from India is also supposed to launch a few products (a small car, a mid-size car, and a small pickup) in the US which would be available with a diesel engine. I've heard a launch date of 2011 or 2012.

I'm really not sure why US and Japanese automakers won't offer small diesels in the US. GM and Ford have a variety of diesels in Europe and elsewhere in the world as does Toyota, Honda and Mitsubishi (not sure about Nissan, but I'd assume it's true for them as well).

Simple. Diesels aren't popular in the US.

See i know next to nothing about car repairs so i have no problem paying someone to fix it.

On the other side of the coin I'm drawn to mechanical problems and compelled at a genetic(?) level to repair them. It's a calling/life/hobby and job all in one.

I can be quite the tinkerer, but with small things i can repair. I don't wanna fuck around with my car.
