"Harry Potter" Ultimate Editions

I don't mind that I bought the older editions of the DVDs - several of which I only paid a few dollars for anyway. For one thing these ultimate editions don't always include all the extras included in the original releases.

For example, if the Order of the Phoenix UE doesn't include the delightful "Trailing Tonks" featurette then I'll be very glad I bought the original.

I'm not talking out my ears on this. When Resident Evil Apocalypse came out on HD-DVD I was actually quite excited ... but I was sad to see that my favorite extra on the DVD edition, the blooper reel, was omitted. So what's the point?

Edit: I just read the press releases and it does appear the UEs for the first two films contain all the extras from the original releases, too, so that's good.

I do hope the UEs fit in some of the deleted scenes, so we get more of the story. But we do know they never filmed certain plot threads (like Hermione's house-elf liberation group), so there's only so much they can do.

My parents have all the DVD's but I've refrained from getting them myself because I thought something like this would come out. Are there audio commentaries included in these editions? If so then I might consider getting them.

I've seen the Chamber of Secrets Extended Edition on ABC in the past and it's really good. That's the best one to get out of the extended editions. The behind-the-scenes features look very cool as well.

Not sure if someone has already posted this, but didn't see anything on a quick perusal of the board.

According to http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/, Warner Bros. is coming out with Ultimate Editions of all the "Harry Potter" films, starting with the first two on Dec. 8. They're basically getting the LOTR treatment. The 4 to 5 disk sets will include both the theatrical and new extended editions of the films

This is why I didn't bother buying even one HP film until now. That is what friends who buy them and DVD burners are for.

I KNEW there'd be some Ultra Edition once they were all out so I thought I would wait and buy the massive set then.

I LOVE that I am not like the mindless sheep who just go out and fork over cash for whatever new shiny thing is out there.

I'm REALLY interested in the extended versions of Prisoner of Azkaban and Half-Blood Prince.

(frankly, parts 1 and 2 do not need to be extended at all imo)

^^ We still have no evidence linked from here that there will be extended editions of those films.

ABC has shown extended versions of PoA & GoF, so one can assume those will be the versions on the Ultimate Editions. Whether there will be extended versions of OotP & HBP is another matter, though one hopes there will be (especially with OotP).

However, PoA had some really important missing stuff, such as the details about the origin of the Marauder's Map.
That's really not important at all, because it adds nothing to the story.

Of course it does, it establishes Harry's father and his friend's and their relationship and how close they were etc. which helps underline the stuff with Peter, Sirius and Lupin later, as to why it was such a betrayal, as they were all best friends.

Indeed.

I showed my partner all the films recently(who has never read any of the books), before we went and saw HBP. I explained all the Mooney, Padfoot, Wormtail and Prongs stuff to him and he said it helped him understand it even more.

He said with the films, as they go along, it feels like more and more is being left out and you need somebody with you to help you understand the intricacies that are missing.

I would LOVE for the map stuff to be put back into PoA.

Prisoner of Azkaban might be the best-looking of the Potter films but Cuaron really gutted a lot of the heart and backstory out of it. With all the backstory cut out, you don't even know why Harry assumed it was his father who initially rescued him.

When I read "Harry Potter Ultimate Edition" I imagined potter with a case of alcoholism and a shiny new broomstick designed by Stark Industries.

Anyone else? :)

Was the map stuff ever even filmed? I don't recall even seeing that in the deleted scenes on the original DVD release. Hard to put back in what never existed in the first place, after all. :D

I have no idea if it was ever filmed - I guess I just meant, for MY ultimate edition the map stuff would be in it.

Harry Potter Ultimate editions

does anyone here plan to get these? do you think they will be worth it? it looks like there will be new bts materials made for each release, but my problem is that after I watch the bonus material once I hardly ever watch it a second time. I currently only have 3 of the films(the last 3) on single disc dvd. Also one would probably have to wait till the end of next year or more to get the ultimate version HP 6.

They sure look nice though.

Re: Harry Potter Ultimate editions

I rarely have interest in any kind of bonus material. So if I was into Harry Potter stuff, that wouldn't be a factor for me.

The only thing I would be concerned about is buying a boxed set of films when they're not all out yet. I don't know how many Potter films have yet to make it to DVD, but I would guess that the most bonusest of features would be saved for a mega-boxset of ALL Harry Potter films. If you can wait that long, I would.
