Channel 9 Announces "Hey Hey It's Saturday" Return Dates!!!!

Well, it's official.

It's coming back and the dates for the two trial specials have been announced as,

29/9/09 and 6/10/09.

Both of these dates are Tuesday nights and the specials will reportedly run from 7:30pm to 10:00pm!!!

Of course we all know by now that if these specials rate sufficiently, Darryl and the gang will be back again, more permanently.

I don't know about the rest of the Aussies on here but this news has just made my day! I LOVED "Hey Hey". Something like this has been missing from our screens since the show finished in 1999. I personally cannot stand the newer batch of Roves and Amos and Andys or whatever their dumb names are. There was something very innocent about the old Hey Hey days that these young smart arses with their "edgy" comedy just don't have.

Maybe I'm getting old, I dunno, but I just cannot wait to see Darryl and hopefully Molly, Dick E Knee and Plucka all back again on the boob tube.

Nah, I'm not getting old, I just crave FUN tv again.

Now where's my slippers and milo? It's bloody cold here in Perth.

Saw my first ad for this the other night on tv - just a "coming soon" thing. Also on the footy show the other night, Sam revealled that Molly Meldrum will be in at least one of the two reunion specials. I wonder if Ernie Carroll and Ozzy will also be back?

I dunno. This could be either very good or very bad.

TV's moved on. Double entendre jokes are so 20th Century. That said, if they can deliver an updated HHIS, fun, as you said, then maybe.

Plucka a Duck - he was crazy. I'll probably watch it again.

I use to like Rove, but over the last few years have lost interest in him. Can't stand Hamish and Andy.

It was crap back in the day and will probably be crap again. Hopefully no one will watch and that garbage will go back to the oblivion it deserves. :bolian:

YMMV, of course.

Just saw an ad and they have changed the premiere night. Looks like it's going to be Wednesday 30/9/09.

I wonder why this has been changed? Hope this does not bode badly as changes usually do.

Agreed. It used to be very spontaneous but now it's unbelievably structured it's not funny. Having all the guests wait on the couch as the show goes on just feels awkward.

I didn't know HHIS was coming back. Might have to have a gander.

So what kind of show is it? Panel show?

No it's supposedly comedy/light entertainment but
a) it's not funny
b) music acts are required to mime their performances after one band decided to perform another song than what they said they would.
c) the host of the show daryl somers has a repuation for being full of himself
d) The most entertaining guy on the show is Red Simons (look him up in Wiki).
e) the show has had it's day (hence I refer to it as hey hey past it's used by date)

Hey Hey started as a kid's show on Saturday mornings in the early '70's. It was a mixture of live entertainment and cartoons. The host was Daryl Somers and his sidekick was a pink ostrich puppet named Ozzie. There were various segments and competitions and so on.

Sometime in the '80's Hey Hey moved to Saturday evenings and became a mainstay of the 6:30-8:30 timeslot. It became more of a variety programme and featured musical acts and comedy. It was well known for launching many groups and individuals. The show was cancelled in 1999 and the final show ran for about four hours to HUGE ratings, ironically. The host, Daryl Somers has been very bitter over the years about the cancellation.

We only have to wait ten days now to find out if it will be back.

I agree. Red Faces was okay but only in a first few episodes of Australian Idol to see crap acts kind of way.

I reckon the change was so that it didn't have to go against the first episode of the new season of NCIS. I wouldn't be surprised that if they did that NCIS would kill the second hour of Hey Hey. That said, they are still against the first episode of the spin off, NCIS: LA.

Well, at least it's something new to Channel Two and a Half Men and 20 to 1 Repeats...I mean 9.

There could be some bad news for the second special. It airs Wednesday 7/10/09 - the same night as the execrable Celebrity Cooking Show bullshit thing starts.

For THE LIFE OF ME I cannot understand why the first series was a ratings winner - it's FUCKING READY STEADY COOK with a fat Simon Cowle gay guy.

God, the public amaze me at times.

Anyway, the ironic thing is, they moved these specials to avoid clashing with NCSICISNISCS's season premiere or whatever the hell it is and ended up going up against Fat Cooking Show With Z Grade "celebrities".

Oh well.

We will see what happens.

Actually Matt Preston was hardly like Simon Cowle. Gary was by far the "meanest" and most critical of the judges. Not surprised it did well, it was a pleasant show and people love watching other people cook.

Part fo the reason I loathed it was it took BB's place this year. But then, who would want BB back with the cretins that hosted it(and caused its cancellation)last year?!?

Trivia time: the woman who won that cooking show, her & her husband own an IT company on the Centrasl Coast, and my son just landed a job with them as a network guru. Bit embarrassing he never watched the show. OTOH, maybe that's what got him over the line. :D
