Three women residents of the New England town of Eastwick each make a wish on a coin, summoning a mysterious man named Darryl Van Horne into their town. Strange things occur upon his arrival and local historian Bun predicts ominous events in the horizon.

I probaby won't make this a regular thread, but was wondering if anyone gave this show a shot. It's got three hotties each with different hair colors -- Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price and Jaime Ray Newman -- and the mounty from Due South (Paul Gross) is back on American television in the Jack Nicholson role.

Though since I never read the novel or saw the movie The Witches of Eastwick, I have no idea if they're going to be more faithful to the book or use the movie as the basis.

I saw it, and I have to give it an average, simply for the fact that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and in places actually got a laugh out of me.

It's a cute show that I think will go the way of Eli Stone.

As far as the story, it appears to be a continuation of the original visit, having stated that Van Horn has been to Eastwick before.

Crap, I missed it. Will have to find it on Hulu...

I learned yesterday that Darren Criss, who played Harry Potter in the Very Potter Musical, is going to have a recurring role on here. I'm really intrigued to see how it goes.

This looks like an interesting show. I've never seen the movie or read the book, so I'll be going into it without any preconceived expectations.

Joy

It was actually rather good considering the rest of the drivel on TV. I will give it a few weeks and see what happens before I make up my mind one way or the other.

That it does, but the big draw for me was Paul Gross. He's the only reason I decided to check this show out and he exceded my expectations. He did a fantastic job as the charismatic stranger who just arrived in town. I'll stick with it because of him and to a lesser degree, the few mildly interesting threads they set up.

I have it on my DVR to watch. I like Jamie Ray Newman as well as Lindsay Price so I'll watch and see if I like it. Seen some good reviews for it.

Agree totally - Paul Gross is what made me decide I had to watch this show, for however long it lasts. (Did you ever see his Canadian series Slings & Arrows, which ran in the States on the Sundance Channel? If not, check it out on DVD - it's brilliant.)

As for the rest of the show, I was pleasantly surprised. Rebecca Romijn was better than I thought she'd be, with a wry sense of humor and a few extra pounds that shows that she doesn't take her supermodel image seriously at all, and although I'm not familiar with Lindsay Price, I thought she was very good as well. Jamie Ray Newman didn't do anything for me, but I'll keep tuning in - maybe she'll grow on me.

Looking into this show further, it looks like these are three new witches and not the ones from the novel/movie. But Darryl Van Horne is a returning character.

On a side note, there were two prior Witches of Eastwick pilots that failed to go to series. One version starred Michael Siberry, Ally Walker, Julia Campbell and Catherine Mary Stewart; the other starred Jason O'Mara, Marcia Cross, Kelly Rutherford and Lori Loghlin. Both of them deal with the same characters from the novel/movie.

It seems to be basically following the '80s movie, but the witches all have new names and none of them is a music teacher. I liked the opening sequence. Overall, I thought it was average.

I gave it an 'average'.

I'll keep watching and see what happens...but can't say as there is anything in particular to recommend it, that this point.

I have to admit that I was somewhat surprised by it and it'll be interesting to see where it goes.

The ending where they find out that Darryl Van Horne wasn't Darryl Van Horne was an interesting touch (if not pretty much a replica of the Boomer reveal just to get us to series idea).

As others have said, it's clearly a continuation of the original story. Veronica Cartwright's character was in both the original movie (we don't know if her husband actually killed her or simply knocked her out -- obviously she didn't die) and the series, Van Horn clearly recognized who she was, and she clearly knew of Van Horn's previous visit.

Even if not the exact same character, the last two points are a pretty clear indicator all on their own.

Re: Eastwick: "Pilot" 9/23 - Rebecca Romijn, Jaime Ray Newman, Paul Gr

Well I like Lindsay Price and Rebecca Romijn - and that other red head... Its like a perfect trifecta of babe-itude. I'd watch it just for them. I enjoyed Lindsay Price's character on Lipstick Jungle - watched it primarily for her really... saw the promo with her in undies and thought "hmmmm... intriquing" and RR well... hey she's funny and hot.

I doubt it'll last too long, but it'll at least look good.

Re: Eastwick: "Pilot" 9/23 - Rebecca Romijn, Jaime Ray Newman, Paul Gr

I'm not too sure of the show yet, but Lindsay, Rebecca, and Jamie were all beyond smoking. Paul Gross being the bad guy was a bit weird. I kept expecting the two Rays and the Wolf to show up.

Re: Eastwick: "Pilot" 9/23 - Rebecca Romijn, Jaime Ray Newman, Paul Gr

Well, there are still leftover bills from making Passchendaele to pay, and he seems to have liked the scripts.

Re: Eastwick: "Pilot" 9/23 - Rebecca Romijn, Jaime Ray Newman, Paul Gr

I loved it.

I must go get the movie to... Why do women hate jack Nicholson Impersonations so much but love Jack?

Imdb, imdb.. Imdb...

Fuck me it's the Mounty.

In retrospect, everything "Daryl" did if past first through a "Benton" filter just seems even more magnificent and unwholesome.

Re: Eastwick: "Pilot" 9/23 - Rebecca Romijn, Jaime Ray Newman, Paul Gr

I'm just hoping that the girls don't just spend a whole season getting passed around by the Demon dude. I hope there is SOME growth and just plain old fashioned progression in the storyline.

Although I would watch it every week to see Rebecca and Lindsay in undies and high heels...

Re: Eastwick: "Pilot" 9/23 - Rebecca Romijn, Jaime Ray Newman, Paul Gr

Thought it was a very good start, and looking to see where it goes. Having a really hard time not rooting for Darryl Van Horne... it's a natural reaction to believe anything Paul Gross says is correct and wholesome.
