Growing up, where I lived, you were either a fan of one or the other...not both. Which of these two shows did you prefer?

I always liked I Dream of Jeannie better. I thought Tony-Roger were such a comic duo, and throw in Bellows as the straight guy, and I think, you had a better core than Samantha and Darrin.

What about you? What show did you prefer???

Bewitched is more relatable to everyday life to me. More of us deal with relatives, in-laws, and civilian jobs than military careers. Also, Samantha is much better wife material than Jeannie. They're both fun shows, though.

Definitely I Dream Of Jeannie, beyond a shadow of a tree. Not only was Barbara Eden superhumanly hot, but the astronaut theme of the show appealed to me, too, space nut kid that I was.

But I also liked Bewitched, even though I could never understand Darrin's stupid rule about witchcraft. The guest stars were the best part of this show, especially Uncle Arthur and Doctor Bombay. "Calling Doctor Bombay, calling Doctor Bombay, emergency, come right away!" :rommie:

Definitely Bewitched. It was more realistic than IDOJ and besides Elizabeth Montgomery was hotter.

I don't see how a man married to a witch with a bunch of nutty relatives is any more "realisitc" than a man who stumbles across a genie in a bottle. :wtf:

I was always a Bewitched guy, though I watched "Jeannie" for the astronaut stuff. I like Babara Eden, but the gibberish "master" dialogue they had her spouting was a big turn-off. Bill Daily was great, though, just wonderful. BTW, whoever heard of an Army astronaut in that day and age?

I liked all the secondary characters in Bewitched: Uncle Arthur, Aunt Clara, Esmeralda, Dr. Bombay, Larry, Mr. and Mrs. Kravitz, Mrs. Stevens. I like both Darrens, but Dick York's worked-up exasperation worked better for me. And Elizabeth Montgomery was pretty, funny and total class all the way.

Also, who was a better as the "dark side," Cousin Serena or "Evil Jeannie"? (Serena.)

Darrin was an adman
Tony was a freaking ASTRONAUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sam was housewife
Jeannie was Geni

think about it

I love your HAWAII FIVE Oish avatar!!!
It has more to do with my love of the oceans and the fact its not in any way a copyrighted image, but if it reminds of Hawaii 5-o, then okay! I'd love to go to Hawaii!

It wasn't!
However I always felt Jeannie realised how absurd its own premise was and was happy to embrace the silliness. Bewitched played it more strait-laced or as strait-laced as a show with a character called Endora could.

I always liked Jeannie better; the two shows were just very different flavors to me. I found Jeannie to be totally comedic and entertaining in the vein of Get Smart; but for me, Bewitched had a twinge of drama and reality to it more akin to shows like Leave it to Beaver.

I love both shows. Each were attempting to do something completely different than the other so I don't compare them. But if you were to stick a gun to my head make me choose... I would go with "Bewitched". There was just a little something more for me there than the other. I also enjoyed the subtle social commentary in "Bewitched" a little more than the all-out slap stick comedy of "I Dream of Jeannie".

I also love the theme music better too. Don't believe me? I have it as the ring tone on my phone! So now, whenever it rings, I always think about the animated Sam on her broom. :bolian:

"Bewitched" has always been smarter to me, and had more of a point - a commentary on how men in the 60s felt like they were losing power over "their" women. One might argue "Jeannie" had similar underlying meaning, but it felt more like generic wish fulfillment fantasy to me. (Nothing against "Jeannie.")

Besides, Liz Montgomery versus Barbara Eden? Pfft. Liz, hands down. Maybe even moreso when she was Serena.

Jeannie, because it was generally funnier, esp. the core characters. Very tongue-in-cheek treatment of the concept, which appeals to me.

Elizabeth Montgomery was better eye candy though, and the secondary cast of Bewitched was better.

Good point. In fact the first season or two were pretty strong on the social commentary, but that aspect was toned down as the show went on and became more of a conventional sitcom.
