The Vampire Diaries. CW greenlights new Vampire show.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

God, yes. At long last... another vampire show.
CW, please be advised I am greenlighting my own cynicism.

I would rather watch your cynicism.

Hmm. "Bill Cosby's Cynicism," coming this fall on FOX. That might not be too bad...

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

FOX would cancel Bill Cosby's Cynicism after a short , yet generous by their standards, run of four episodes but the astronomical returns on DVD sales would cause a near instant revival... Not that Fox would ever admit that they only cancel good show after good show to inflate DVD sales.

Since, obviously that would be evil.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

I've only recently become a major fan of Buffy and Angel, and I frankly can't imagine vampires existing in any other form. I don't even want them to. Unless there's a spin-off in the works, I'm not interested in vampires at all.

See, I agree with you.

Maybe I'm an elitist, but I've never even really liked vampire stuff, with the exception of Buffy and Angel. They're the only ones I've ever really got into.

If Joss made a Slayerverse spin-off, i'd be all over it. All this new Twilight/True Blood whatever stuff leaves me somewhat cold.

I also didn't quite buy the dialogue the teens were speaking. I've been out of high school for a long time now, but I just can't see kids today saying some of those lines. How many teens know about Hitchcock or The Birds for example?

No kidding. Those were the words of a Hollywood writer, not a teen. Reminds me of Buffy's The Zeppo, where we are supposed to believe that shallow Cordelia knows that much about the Marx Brothers.

When someone sets 12 full seasons of television around a certain mythology, it's just hard for me to care about some other version of that.

If vampires were real, it would be hard for me to believe that Angelus and Darla were not a major part of the vampire history.

So Boone turned undead and came back as vampire? Nice.

The pilot was watchable. No way the main cast look like they belong in high school though. Why didn't they change it into college or something? I heard the ratings were pretty big and it has to be much cheaper to make than Smallville or Supernatural so this show will probably be around for a while

Well my older sister is officially hooked. It is insane how much time I have spent this week googling the books for her and explaining the difference between True Blood and Anne Rice. Finally, my family has found a use for the geek.

Your sister makes me sad.

About as sad as a friend of mines sister who years ago spent an allnighter downloading "Young Americans" Fanfiction after watching the pilot.

Remember that Bugs Bunny cartoon where he goes to sleep for a century and when he wakes up , television has been replaced by smellovision?

The CW broadcasts in vaginavision.

Weepy sentimental putrid girl clap trap.

"Oh he's pretty, I don't care about the noise coming out the TV, dialogue is for losers, i just like how his sexy emanations make my vajayjay hum and pulse."

They won't let you drive drunk why do they let people Nielson box while horny for himbos?

And whores. Young women 18-34 love watching whores in high school in Beverly Hills (and in private gossipy schools in NYC) with designer clothes from mommy and daddy, whores from Melrose Place, and semi whores trying to win at modeling. That's Dawn's formula and she's sticking with it. :techman: She may have a winner with the impossibly pretty, hairless chested vampires.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

I'm going to go slightly against the grain here. I decided to check out the show despite having misgivings. It wasn't as bad as I thought, though that's not saying its all that good either.

One thing that I noticed was a blase kind of attitude, on the part of the TV producers, regarding underage drinking. I was a bit surprised to see almost all the teens drinking alcohol, even the good girl Elena. I thought the show opened with more bite (pun intended) than I expected, but after that I guess it's all Twilight-lite (never saw the movie but it seems like it has that kind of vibe). I'm not sure why Elena wasn't freaked out when Stefan just shows up and disappears, or why she invited him into her house at the end, when it was late as hell at night. Where was her aunt? The evil brother Damon has a nasty enough smirk and I did like how they explained why Stefan could walk in the sunlight and that he was weaker than Damon because he didn't feast on human blood. I also didn't quite buy the dialogue the teens were speaking. I've been out of high school for a long time now, but I just can't see kids today saying some of those lines. How many teens know about Hitchcock or The Birds for example?

I think it has the potential to be a guilty pleasure and perhaps a safer alternative to the Twilight movies and it should do well perhaps for its core audience, which I'm assuming are young teenage girls. I was reared on Blade and he would've chopped up diary writing vamps like Stefan in seconds.

All pretty much spot on. I especially liked how the teens continued to drink in front of the police officers. And I'll echo the concern of where the hell are the adults on this show? I thought the aunt was another student. The uncle guy just sits at his desk waiting for angst to come home and the teacher's the req. asshole. There are literally no other adults on the show (the permissive cops were essentially background props).

Sigh. I want Moonlight back, not this teen fantasy.

I finally tried to watch the first episode, but after about 20 minutes had had enough. I used to like a lot of those teen-themed WB shows (like Roswell or Felicity), but those at least had a fairly adult sensibility to them.

This one seemed aimed more at 9 or 10 year olds. Just way too safe and dumbed-down for my taste.

For some reason I watched episode 2. That drinking game I came up with worked.

When did all fictional vampires gain hypnosis powers? I mean, Dracula did, cuz he was powerful.

Auntie was shamed by history teacher! Watch another Kevin Williamson guardian figure flounder at fo-parenting, while we all realize the real maternal figure is Elena.

I was staring at the spelling too hard, and I wondered what the Vampire Dairies would be like as a show? A couple good down to earth Vampire farm boys who raised a pesky herd of humans? Imagine the "milking" machines, or you don't have to if you've seen Buffy season 3's "the Wish" or Blade III.

What did Count Duckula drink?

Did we ever establish if the Count from Sesame Street was a vampire?
