Survivor: Samoa

Sigh. Poor Marisa. I hope both Russell and Ben get axed soon, but given the way this season has been marketed, I have a feeling Russell will last a while. I just fear he'll make me too angry to watch. Coach was infuriating last season, but at least in a hilariously entertaining way. At least Betsy is (sort of) on to Russell - hopefully she gets a chance to make a move. Didn't get much of a feel for the other tribe yet. Except I'm going to be randomly yelling "Shambo!" for no reason now. :p

Side note: is it just me, or do contestants wear pants a lot less often in the last 3-4 seasons? It seems everyone is always just running around in their underwear lately. Maybe that's their way of keeping the ratings afloat for a show in its 19th season?

Sigh. Poor Marisa.
Yeah, I was looking forward to watching her cavort in that bikini all season. :scream: And what the hell was Russell talking about when he was saying Marisa "threatened" him by saying he was talking to a lot of other people? I didn't hear a threat. Seems like he embellished that part just to have a reason to get rid of her.

And how exactly does Russell think that demoralizing his own team--by dumping their water, burning their socks, sowing dissension, etcetera--is going to help him win this game? It does him no good to destroy all the competition on his own team if it just means that the other team wipes up the island with them.

He lied repeatedly, went around destroying other players' clothing, dumped all the water he didn't drink, and you're surprised he "embellished" something?

Yeah, sabotaging your own team is a pretty short-sighted strategy.

His antics are entertaining, so part of me wants Russell to hang around for a while, but on the other hand, I want to see him get taken down. He may be just acting the part, but he sure comes off as a vile human being.

Outside of Russell, I didin't get a feel for any of the players. It's kind of hard when they start out with 20 players. I liked it better when they started with just 16 contestants.

I think RUSSELL. I have watched SURVIVOR every year, and the show is starting to get old..they NEED someone like this to upset the usual crop of nerds..alpha males...jocks..disty blonds and..well..the formula is well known...

Johnny Fairplay was one of Survivor's greatest characters..its about time someone did the bad dude thing again..

I love Russell... He's the only reason I tuned in this season. I haven't watched regularly since the first run, but I may have to keep up this year just to see what antics he has going on.

I loved when he said "I'm a multi-millionaire, I'm not in it for the money, I'm in it for the game." I think he might be the first one on this show who doesn't give a shit about the money.

I don't think Russell can last. We're one hour in and people are already starting to get wary of him . . . .

Who's your pick to win Greg? I don't think Russell will win, and will eventually by 'exposed'. I think the doctor dude has a good chance of winning...

Hard to say at this point. Russell got so much screen time last night that we didn't really get a chance to know the others too well. And it usually takes a few episodes before I can tell the various young men and women apart.

Betsy, the older female cop, seems promising. And the other Russell, the dreadlocked guy who got annointed leader of his tribe, seems sane and likable.

How about you? What are your picks?

Im with you Greg on both.. I liked the cop, who seemed to be weary of Russell. And dreadlock Russell seemed pretty cool too. I am sad to see marisa go so early, due to her eye-candy appeal, but..oh well..there are a couple babes left!!!

What the hell is going on with that Russel guy??

He could be fun as the season progresses, if he stays around, but right now he just seems delusional and megalomaniac to me. You're running the tribe? Wake up, asshole, at this point noone gives a shit who gets voted off as long as it's not them. Getting them to kick out Marisa didn't take a genius, especially since you didn't even manage to do it unanimously.

Marissa was an idiot though; just the look on her face as the votes were being read.

Russell is funny now, but so was Johnny Fairplay was at this point.
