New info re Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (DC animated DTV)

I am waiting for them to cast David Caruso as Batman in something. I can't stand him but think he could do a hell of a Batman voice. In fact he does a Batman voice in pretty much everything he does so I think he'd be great as a voice actor.

GL does not have a ring on his fingers! Animation mistake or plot? It could be possible that Power Ring steals Green Lanterns ring from him.

I was looking on that, and from the angle we see, the ring could be on his right hand and not be visible because of how his fist is positioned.

Dwayne McDuffie has said that Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths isn't based on Grant Morrison's Earth 2. Beyond that, he's going to wait until after the release of Superman/Batman: Public Enemies before answering more questions.

World's Finest reports here that the first look featurette for Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths confirms that it is indeed a reworking of Dwayne McDuffie's Worlds Collide.

Update: Bruce Timm has posted the following on Toon Zone's DC Animation forum:

let's see if i can do this without pissing anyone off unduly....fingers crossed!

yep, CO2E basically IS the old WORLDS COLLIDE script -- it's like 95% or more intact -- major difference being the swapping of john stewart for hal jordan -- and since john didn't have a very big part in the original script anyhow, it didn't impact the overall story in any important way (we'd just come off "Starcrossed", remember, where he'd gotten some major face-time, so we felt it'd be good to let him take a bit of a breather)

WORLDS COLLIDE was always intended to be "Continuity Lite", to appeal to the broadest audience possible, to be comprehensible to people who hadn't necessarily seen every episode of JL or people who didn't even get Cartoon Network -- (remember, at the time, the season set dvd's were still a ways off) -- so there never were very many overt continuity callbacks in the script to get rid of

as to why we didn't just make it a straight-up "DCAU" film? simple answer : ZERO interest from the folks at Home Video in re-visting the old continuity -- they've invested several million dollars in establishing the new "DCU" dvd line as its own thing, so why muddy the issue by bringing back the old continuity?

putting it bluntly, getting a "DCAU" version of WORLDS COLLIDE green-lit just plain wasn't gonna happen at this time -- PERIOD.

so -- i could've just waited another five years to see if anybody at Home Video changed their minds (and run the risk that they might NEVER do so) -- or i could grab this opportunity as my last best hope of getting WC on the screen practically intact (but with new designs and new voices), and obviously that's what i chose to do

and by the way, regardless of what gregory says in that video clip, it was totally my idea to dust off and tweak the WC script for the DCU series -- he's blameless here -- any effigies that get burned will have blonde hair, glasses and very tall foreheads, okay?

and as for whether or not the DCAU continuity is "dead" or not -- believe me, i very much appreciate that so many of you guys have so much love for the old series, from BTAS through JLU (i do too) -- but frankly, i doubt that we'll be formally, "officially" doing another movie or tv series set in that continuity -- but i suppose anything's possible -- i just hate to see you guys getting your hopes up for DCAU Ressurrection Day, every time we cast kevin conroy as batman or whatever

at the moment, i'm thoroughly enjoying making these "one-off" DCU movies, and don't have any burning desire to re-visit the old continuity -- again, anything is possible, so concievably that could change someday -- instead of saying "THE DCAU IS DEAD", maybe we can just say it's in a state of suspended animation until further notice...?

I had a feeling that the Warner Execs were the ones preventing this movie from being set in DCAU and it turns out I was right. :(

At least we're getting the script mostly intact.

While it's sad that we won't be revisiting the DCAU proper, I'd pretty much given up on any hope in doing so a while ago. I'm glad that they're going to be able to make that unmade movie anyway, "95%" intact.

And, not to fan the fire of the animation style argument, but part of me feels that if they're not going to have all these movies be part of one cohesive new universe, they should go ahead and vary the animation, color, and character styles more for each movie..

Not making them more different feels... half-assed. Like they want it to appear it might be in one continuity, even if it isn't. I'd say it would be a bolder choice to bring in a particularly stylistic comic artist with ties to the particular character or story as creative director for each film much as was done for "New Frontier."

I wonder what this means for revisiting the characters from the DC animated DTV videos. I realize I am going way out on a limb, but are they interested in visiting many different properties or are they going to want to revisit some of these. I would really love to see a more Earth-based sequel to Green Lantern: First Flight.

I can't find the link off hand; but around the time of ComicCon (if not during), Timm mentioned that one of the future DTVs they were planning was a sequel to a DTV. Timm did not say which DTV would get the sequel treatment, but most were betting it would either be Wonder Woman or Green Lantern.

Personally, I would lay odds on Green Lantern because Warner will probably want a new DTV release out there to sell alongside the 2011 Green Lantern feature film (just like they did with Gotham Knight for The Dark Knight and that awful Brainiac Attacks for Superman Returns).

Makes sense. At least we get to see the story pretty much as it would've been done. Since the story involves alternate realities anyway, maybe we could pretend it's in an alternate DCAU timeline where Hal was GL instead of John (as glimpsed in "The Once and Future Thing," sort of).

It's comic-book dead!

So it's not an adaption of JLA Earth 2...that kind of sucks and is 95% Worlds Collide with a few alterations with John Stewart being replaced with Hal Jordan. Ok. I'm still in anyways. I would have liked this to have been an adaptation of Morrison's graphic novel but that's okay. It still looks bad ass. So that GL is indeed Hal and not Kyle. The animation of the character reminds me of the Kyle Rayner shown in Justice League but oh well.
