Star Trek XII Release Date & Box Office Discussion Thread

Bingo, I thought they would either move Thor or put it instead of Transformers. I think Trek is headed for 20th May and Transformers is staying put. This is assuming IMAX is free so soon after Spiderman 4.

Paramount should announce Trek XII ASAP.

Should as in they ought to, or will? (Any inside scoop?)

No, just thinking that they should soon, and really they should have done it earlier this summer.

I wish I could get inside scoop, but the only person I know at Paramount works for a production company that just has their offices there.

I'll bet for another early May opening. They'll likely stick with what works. Plus, I don't see Spidey 4 doing past films business. Spidey 3 didn't break records as I recall; the novelty had worn off some.

It was the lowest grossing domestically ($336 million), but the most successful internationally ($890 million worldwide).

It actually did break records. It set the opening weekend record of $151 million over the 3-day weekend.

So Green Lantern and Thor are now in direct competition with each other? That should be interesting.

WB should move Green Lantern to May 20th if they're smart. Marvel is only moving Thor to June so as not to compete with another one of their characters.

Count on it. No way it'll be ready in a year and a half. Keep dreamin', people.

This as in Transformers or Trek?

Trek. It doesn't seem like they are rushing the movie (which is good), and might explain why they haven't pegged a release date yet or even said it's being released in 2011.

That'd be a shame, speaking on a strictly selfish level. But I suppose dreck like Transformers II is easier to rush to production.

:(

Edited to ask--if the producer, director, actors, sets, fx company are all set to go at pretty much a moment's notice, why would it be so difficult to shoot the movie in that time, even within a year?

Spider-Man will be.

They aren't all ready at a moment's notice. They all need to be scheduled in, and several key actors are presently in TV series and appearing in other upcoming movies.

You can use a lot of the old sets, but you will need new ones - you can't build them until you have a script - something I actually hope they take their time with.

Plus, they will need plenty of time in post, if the FX are to be up to XI's high standards. Moreover, Abrams did a lot of recutting and refininf in post, which was all to XI's betterment.

I'd rather they not rush, frankly.

Because they still haven't started writing yet. Spider-man 4 should be done soon since they're already set filming to begin in January.
