Kit bash- Forward Swept Wing K'Tinga...

Patrickivan

In response to the thread that requested the forward swept wing Klingon battle cruiser, I decided to build one. I love the look of this.

Some posters put up some images of a ship that to me, looked awesome. It reminded me of a Klingon Bird of Prey. Now since in the original concept of Star Trek: TSFS called for the Bird of Prey to be a stolen Romulan ship, and since it is pretty much a given that the Romulans and Klingons had an alliance resulting in an exchange in technologies, I have no problem taking this kit bashed design and making it a Romulan ship.

Modestly smaller then the Klingon battle cruiser, but larger then a TOS Romulan Bird of Prey, this Romulan vessel is a tactical hit and run attack scout. Made specifically to get in and out as only a sneaky Romulan could, she’s fast, has full cloaking, but her weapons are at a minimum, as she’s not expected to engage in full one on one combat.

So here’s a kit-bash that’s on its way onto being what I think, is a really neat ship. I’m planning on painting it a base blue- grey, with green highlights, showing the transition to TNG’s warbird colouration. It's not done yet- all the pieces are kind of just tacked together right now...

And, if I can get my bloody blackberry to stop timing out and get another image onto my wordpress blog, then I"ll get it posted here!

Now that looks nice :) :techman:

if i had the $ id buy it off ya when your done with it :)

That's quite cool. It would make a nice basis for an alternate design lineage of Romulan cruisers produced just after the Klingon/Romulan alliance.

Wow... I think I might make a variant of my Klingon, oriented this way, with Romulan markings. :)

Got to finish Constellation first.......

Thanks all... Here's a little update. I'm doing some bodywork now. I'm using an autobody short strand fibreglass and autobody filler. I LOVE the fibreglass paste. If you get to it before it completely hardens, you can cut and trim it to the shape you want. Sanding it before completely hardening is preferable too. I don't need to use autobody filler if I get to the fibreglass right away, but I'm experimenting with the two on this model (as opposed to my van), so...

So here, I've blended the protruding bulb on the underside of the hull (originally located aft) with the underside of the boom. I'm trying to get lines to match and blend... It's coming along. I've also had to relocate the impulse engines, and that's involved a bid of body work. There's been a lot of cutting and parts relocating on this project.

I really want to get painting though! I've got the base blue/grey paint picked out, and need the green and grey for the raised surfaces. I've noted some design intents for TNG's war bird that never achieved fruition. More specifically, an aspect to emphasize the location of the bridge area. I've decided to take this inverted pyrimid shaped bird like design and I am going to incorporate it to the bow of the ship. A picture would be better suited to show what I mean, but I don't have it loaded yet... Soon.

Update Alert!

Hey- Here's the ship almost completed. I'm in the final stages of painting and adding little details.

I thought about placing the nacelles on the top side of the ship, like the BoP in TOS... But it just didn't seem right with Klingon Technology.

The red and greens will be muted with the next coat of blue/grey I throw on it. There's already one coat on, and you can see from the prior pictures that the red is covered a little.
Any thoughts on the ship?

Are the nacelles not paralell, or is that just a trick of perspective?

They are NOT parallel. Unfortunately, I could not get them to be parallel without extensive modifications. If I didn't get each one exactly like the other, it would look really off.

So, I opted out of making them parallel. In my head, I can't recall any "rule" that says they can't be like this. It kind of works with this design though.

Maybe the warp effect is different with this allignment, and the subspace field is distorted in a way is beneficial to this specific ship design. Not unlike Voyager's "variable" (though perplexingly static) geometry warp nacelles.

It is an impressive kitbash, but the problem with it is the front of the centerbody which the boom connects to is too narrow, and the rear of the centerbody where the engines are mounted are too wide.

I thought that at first, but it grew on me. And besides, the BoP has a big backyard compared to where the boom hits the main hull.

Now thats a way better Paint job :)

and Cool Model :)

you going to submit it to Starship Modeler's Reader Gallery ?

Patrickivan,

I actually was working on a project request to make a FSW K'Tinga with the centerbody revised.

Ah yes- That's what inspired me to make this. The second I saw the thread, I started making this ship.

BUT I SCREWED UP!!! I overpainted the top coat and lost the undercoat colours that I wanted to faintly show through... Maybe a super fine sanding... hmmm.
