Which Star Trek movie do you think is the best with the TOS crew? It can be any of the orginal 6 movies with the cast from TOS. As for me I thought Star Trek IV The Voyage Home and Star Trek III The Search For Spock,Star Trek II The Wrath Of Khan where the best ones of all 6. I love all the 6 movies, but those are the ones I think is the best. Which ones do you like the best?

TMP - I didn't know we could vote more than once. However, I vote for this one because of the storyline: proper SF that made you think as opposed to the "cowboys in space" it would later become...

I remember somewhere reading that Starfleet had become more militarised as the films progressed, - I think he had 'The Undiscovered Country' in mind when making that point- although played-down in TOS, that role was always present by the necessity of defense obligations.

'The Motion Picture' sees Starfleet more as the exploratory arm of the UFP, so for that reason alone TMP gets my vote.

Of those six, it would have to be TWOK.

Now, as far as "the best movie with TOS characters" I might go for Abrams's version. Or maybe TWOK barely beats it out. I'm leaning toward the former these days, but it depends on my mood.

The Undiscovered Country. I love the Klingons in this one. Some people seem to think it goes against the spirit of the TV series, but that really depends on which episodes you have in mind. It fits in pretty well with something like Balance of Terror.

Voted for The Undiscovered Country. The first Star Trek movie I saw in cinemas during the original release. The best swansong of any cast.

...proper SF that made you think...

People keep saying this. I still don't see it.

Nor do I. It didn't make me think, it made me bored.

With all due respect, I just don't get the love affair some fans have with this movie. There's a myth out there that it somehow exemplifes Star Trek in its purest form or something. But to me it's really no more or less Trek than any of the other films.

I don't think Star Trek ever really took its sci-fi trappings all that seriously. The sci-fi was, more often than not, just an excuse to examine issues of sociology, religion, politics, and psychology, etc. in a more interesting way than your average TV show.

But that's just IMO of course.

Oh, crap, I didn't realize till after I voted that it was multiple choice! Curses! I picked TWOK, but had I paid attention, I also would have voted for TSFS and TVH, and might have picked TUC. -- RR

Red Ranger, I keep meaning to ask: who is that in your avatar and where is it from? It looks strangely familiar and the wife says she knows it too...

Orcus: It's Will Farrell, playing a member of the band Blue Oyster Cult, in a Saturday Night Live skit spoofing the band and VH-1's documentaries on bands. It's supposed to be a behind-the-scenes look at how they recorded Don't Fear the Reaper. The skit also featured Christopher Walken playing a producer who keeps asking Farrel's character to give him more cowbell (play it louder). In my sig, there's a link to a YouTube video with one small part of that skit. From time to time, people will post the whole skit, but it gets taken down after a few days. Look for it from time to time and you might see the whole skit. It's hella funny! -- RR
