CBS to launch 6 channels in the UK?

Well "Launch" might be overstating it a bit, by the sounds of it they're partnering with Zone and rebranding Zone's channels and bringing their back catalogue of shows with them.

From Digital Spy

CBS is to launch six channels in the UK later this year after establishing a joint venture with Chellomedia.
The six CBS-branded channels will replace Chello's Zone bouquet and will be the UK home for 70,000 hours of programming from CBS Studios International's library.
"This UK partnership marries our channel expertise with one of the world’s largest libraries of high quality and globally popular programming," said Shane O'Neill, president of Chellomedia and chief strategy officer at parent company Liberty Global. "We are delighted that CBS and Chello Zone are entering into this prestigious partnership on our UK entertainment television channels."
Chello's Zone channels are available in the UK on digital cable and digital satellite.

Hopefully they'll keep the channels free to air and take them a bit more up market from what they have been.

I hope so. I cancelled Sky and still have FreeSat and the Zone channels are some of the few I have left. I never watch them though, they're full of shite. So a CBS linkup sounds promising. Well, unless it means six channels of CSI, which would be just as bad. :D

I hope CSI stays on Five & FiveUSA, however no reason those channels cant air Classic CSI like Living currently does.

That said if CBS wants to put a channel on freeview, and buy first run right to CSI, they are welcome to, I would get a kick out of watching CSI on CBS, chances are it would lead to fastracking as well.

I do not get the zones channels on my free view might rescan once they start with the new programing and see if i can pick them up.

Good God. CBS can't come up with a single show worth watching on one network. I can't imagine what they plan to do with six. :rommie:

What the hell does "bouquet" have to do with television channels?

speak for yourself, I would love to see the US CBS launch on the UK Freeview platform, would you like me to list all the show I would watch on it?

speak for yourself

Yeah, I do a lot of speaking for other people. I'm a ventriloquist! :rommie:
I am sure you dont speak for the 10+ million viewers for some of CBS average hits, that make the CBS the #1 network in the United States (I think thats the case anyways)
Lower the number a little and you could say the same thing for ITV, Wamdue, since ITV is the most popular commercial channel, and at times overtakes BBC One as the most watched channel, yet we all agree ITV is mostly shit.

Ah yeah, the dreaded return of X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing. I hate this time of year, although with other reality/talent shows plastered round the schedule at other times of the year, it never really lets off.

And then you get all of soaps that millions watch, pretty much shoved into the schedule ad infintum. *sigh*

at least CBS does it with drama, ok CBS has bread an audience of cop shows junkies, who desperate for a fix of a CBS cop show, will tune into any cop show that CBS airs, whilst any cop show with the name Jerry Bruckhimer attached in any small way, thats a fix and a little bit more.

watching fiveUSA is like an over dose for these guys, a channel that would make even CBS blush and say "you know maybe there is such a thing as too many cop shows" leaving fans totally unable to move for fear they will miss a crucial part of the episode.

Hello im wamdue, and im a CBS cop show junkie.

CBS gets its high ratings with a raft of similar dramas, ITV gets its ratings from a raft of similar reality shows, I know which I would pick if I was given a choice.

^Law & Order UK, Lewis, Taggert, Wire in the Blood, A Touch of Frost, Blue Murder, Rebus, Prime Suspect, etc. etc. ITV drama... cop shows...

well yes but those don't run 22 weeks a year like on CBS, there is no Corrie or Emmerdale on CBS, I would like to say its immune to reality but it has BigBrother in the summer and Survivor on its fall schedule, but I world argue that CBS has the better schedule of the two.

CBS also has some decent sitcoms, ITV does not even have 1 decent sitcom.

What's the length of the shows got to do with it? I thought the point was high ratings and popular dramas don't make ITV/CBS good channels... unless of course you're one of the people who loves the popular drama, but who counts those millions?
