Original XBox Games

My cousin is getting himself an XBox 360 this week and asked me which original XBox games are worth getting, but since I never owned one I couldn't give an answer. Can anybody here help me out?

Well firstly you will have to see if the games he is looking for are supported, the 360 does not offer 100% back compatibility with original xbox games.

My fav XB1 games: Halo, Halo 2, Star Wars Battlefront 1, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Crimson Skies, X-Men Legends, Marvel Ultimate Alliance (also on 360).

from that list I would recommend
Burnout series
Fable
Forza Motorsport
Grand Theft Auto series
Half Life 2
Halo series
Indigo Prophecy
Jade Empire
The Lord of the Rings The Third Age
Max Payne series
Need for Speed Underground 2
Project Gotham series
Red Dead Revolver
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic series

What genres does he enjoy?

I'd say shooters, fighters, RPGs and racers.

Didn't realise some games weren't compatible. It looks like the Halo series, Project Gotham Racing and Knights Of The Old Republic are likely candidates.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Splinter Cell is good and America's Army should be good too. It had better be if the Army actually expects that game to recruit new Soldiers.

Both are 360-compatible.

The 360 doesn't have backward compatibility. So instead they had to make emulators. If you put in an Xbox game that has an emulator, it will ask to download it. But Microsoft abandoned their original Xbox base pretty quickly and the few games that have emulators will be it.

If you've got the patience to learn its nuances, Ninja Gaiden is a fantastic game to play through. It's filled with great action, memorable boss fights and tons of hidden details.

Which is why I don't get rid of my old consoles, even if the sequel is supposed to have backward compatibility. Besides, the Wii doesn't have a Game Boy Player like the GameCube had... yet...

Or, maybe Nintendo will just do the economically expedient thing and just port old GB, GBC & GBA games to the VC for the DSi and Wii...

I'm so gald I don't get rid of my games... unless they suck...

Try Amped2, Crimson Skies(simply wonderful airplane combat) and the Ghost Recon(Tom Clancy) games.

I would have to say don't get any Xbox franchise games if there are better installments on the 360, i.e. Ghost Recon, Call of Duty, Rainbow Six, Burnout, Soul Calibur, etc. If you care about storylines, maybe get the Spliter Cell series and work your way from the first game on. The first Mercenaries got great reviews on the Xbox and the 360 sequel was panned, but that could be subjective.

Halo*, Halo 2, Crimson Skies, Beyond Good & Evil*, Starwars Battlefront 1 & 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas*

(Asterix* denotes original X-box games available through download from X-box live)

Knights of the Old Republic, the first one. The second one is good, but not great, I'd still recommend it though. Even though they are ports, GTA Vice City, and San Andreas, Morrowind, Splinter Cell, Star Wars Battlefront I and II.

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
The Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of The Earth
Halo 1 and 2
Ninja Gaiden Black
KOTOR 1 and 2
Grand Theft Auto Vice City
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Max Payne 1 and 2
Destroy All Humans 1 and 2
Steel Battalion
Soulcalibur 2
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance
Mortal Kombat Deception
Mortal Kombat Armageddon
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Star Trek: Shattered Universe
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (the PC version is better, if you have a decent one)

IMO don't bother with Doom 3 or Half-Life 2 - those two are far, far better on a PC, or failing that get the Xbox 360 versions.
