The 10th Anniversary of the Dreamcast is today.

It's too bad that console couldn't compete with PS2. It was a marvelous little device.

Joystiq remembers the Sega Dreamcast

Oh, and it seems that SEGA is making a new 2D Sonic game... not that anyone would care.

The DC was nice, unfortunately it was priced rather high and so it suffered like the PS3. And, let's face it, Sega is no Sony.

But what do you have against Sonic?

Nothing. I was being facetious.

Also, I liked Sega much more than Sony. At least Sega could come up with a few mascot characters.

The DC was an amazing unit. Online gaming, versatile games(ever see Seaman?) microphone attachments, it had very innovative capabilities. I owned 2. PSO Online! Great stuff!

I had a DC for about three months then it got destroyed in a move from Florida to Texas. Never replaced it (not because I didn't want to, but never had enough $$ lying around). Great console - ahead of its time. I still play the DC version of the original SoulCalibur on my 360.

Love my DC, the only is extended playtime with DC's strangely shaped controllers cramp the fuck out of my hands.

DC's graphics were easily superior to the PS2's

I had a Dreamcast and really liked it, but it was doomed from the start, no matter how awesome it was. 32X was a total joke (I bought one and when you're a kid, that's a ton of money to blow on garbage... but I was easily swayed the "illusion" of upgrading the Genesis so you don't have to get another console) so I skipped the Saturn which was a total bomb. The writing was already on the wall for Sega before the Dreamcast even came out.

Are you thinking of the Saturn? The Dreamcast launched at $199 (hardly overpriced), while the Saturn launched at $399.

Sonic games on home consoles have been utter garbage since the DC days. I know the Nintendo DS ones have been better, but that doesn't really matter to me considering I don't own a DS.

i used to have a dreamcast years ago used to play shenmue(sp?) on it for a while then gave it and the games to my niece who plyed it into the gruond.
funny thing is the x-box controller kind of looks like the dreamcast one

Sonic Rush on the DS was horrible. I don't care what the reviews online say. The camera couldn't keep up during boss battles and the game routinely cheated during those battles too. Sonic Heroes and the ports of Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 on GameCube are pretty cool.

The XBOX controller was heavily inspired by the Dreamcast, even going so far as putting the Mem Card slots into the controller instead of the console. That idea should be adopted by the whole industry, along with Nintendo's bright idea to use SD Cards instead of something proprietary.

No, it shouldn't now. Since all the controllers across the consoles went wireless it would now suck the batteries reading the memory card.

I really loved the Dreamcast, it was one of those consoles that had alot of soul behind it. Its really too bad it never got to live longer. I imagine we would have seen a few changes if we had, such as broadband support and dual joystick controllers

How much juice could reading a SD card possibly use?

Enough to waste battery life that could be better spend being a dedicated controller. And it's not just reading the cards, it's transmitting megabytes of data back and forth via the wireless radio that waste the battery.

OK then... Can we at least go with a universal format like SD cards? It sure does cut down on costs.

I know what you mean, the memorystick ProDuo cards for my Sony PSP are expensive compared to SD cards.

I had a Dreamcast system and loved it. Crazy Taxi was one of my favorites.
