My cat has this thing for plastic bags from the grocery store. She loves to sleep on them and really loves licking them. I wonder if the smell makes her high or something. Can she get sick from the bags? When she does this what should I do?

I pick option "This should be in Misc."

But with regard to your question: I don't have a cat, or any pet, but if I did, I don't think I'd let them play with plastic bags... but maybe I just worry too much.

As for whether it can make her sick, I have no idea.

My cat loves anything that crinkles, and plastic bags certainly fit into that category. I don't think it's really anything to worry about.

I've seen the same thing with a "shop" cat we had where I worked several years ago. He loved those things. He did the licking thing and stuck his head inside them, but didn't sleep on/in them.

And add 1 for the "should be in misc." column

Cats are stupid. If you put a magazine on the floor, my mother's cat will casually walk over and then sit on it.

My cat loves plastic bags, too. She likes to chew on them. We try to keep them away from her, just to be safe; don't want her choking on one or getting her head caught in one and suffocating.

Heh, one of my cats loves licking plastic bags too. This morning in fact he was doing it and I told him to stop and shoved him away from it, he walked right back to it and started licking again, I did the same thing, he did the same thing, this happened about half a dozen times before he finally got the hint and gave up. Whether it's bad for him, I don't know, I just don't want cat saliva on my plastic bags!

Get those bags away from your cat immediately!!!!! They're a suffocation hazard! It says so right there on the bag!

I've heard they use corn starch to keep the plastic bags from sticking together, so maybe that's what the cat likes.

Snap. My cat loves plastic bags and shoe boxes.

She takes a running jump then slide across the floor on the bag.

Cats basically love anything you got for free. Buy it, and they'll barely touch it. But if it is some crummy shipping box, boy -- it might as well be a cheeseburger.

And they leave hair all over everything. If I didn't vacum every five nanoseconds, we'd be overrun.

My cat is a Sphynx. He doesn't leave hair on anything. On the other hand, he can become very shiny if I don't bathe him often enough.

Put them in a drawer.

The bags, not the cats.

But seriously, you're absolutely right. You wouldn't let a child play with a plastic bag for fear of suffocation or choking, and the same hazards apply with cats or dogs. As cute as it may look, this is seriously dangerous.

Now, paper bags and cats go together wonderfully.

That's the truth. My cats have always loved paper bags, especially if you poke a hole in bottom of them and taunt them with a pencil or something.

As for plastic bags, I try to use them as little as possible and I take the suffocation warning seriously. I don't leave them around where animals or small children could come across them.
