(UEFA) Football Thread - Football not Soccer

The draw will be even better for them at this rate - there's not a small chance Argentina, Portugal and France won't be at the World Cup. That would be... insane.

Other teams who won't be there: the Home Nations.

France doesn't deserve to go to SA to be honest. From what I understand, they still have a good chance, but only because all the other teams in that group (except Serbia) suck so hard - especially Romania is a real disappointment. If France does make it, they'll need either a huge amount of luck or a major turnaround to not become a joke imo.

Tsss tsss tssss :scream: :klingon:

Actually I enjoyed the last 2 matches.
Yesterday was a day of bad luck, it could have been worse with the GK expulsed after 9 minutes...

Shame about Argentina, I was quite looking forward to us beating them under Mad Maradona!

You also certainly would beat them too. Capello vs Maradonna... barely worth thinking about it.

I agree with Roger too - France have been dire and really do not deserve to make it. I cannot fathom how Domenech has kept his job all this time.

I watched a little bit of the game against Serbia and wasn't impressed.

It would be too hilarious if the Faeroes get a point against France and Austria possibly still has a chance to overtake France in the last game.

Anyway, France is the second best team in that group, whatever that's worth, despite their problems.

I wasn't impressed too  but that's still better than what I saw against Faeroes.

Yeah, hilarious...Bruno N'Gotty says hello BTW  (sweet vengeance  )

Watching England vs Germany women's EC finale right now.

It's a good game actually, once you get past comparing the level of play with men's football.

1:2 England - Germany after 30 minutes

Honestly, who didn't see this coming for Maradonna? When they named him manager I laughed for days.

Cocaine's a hell of a drug.

And Germany wins 2:6! Pretty good game, I think. Fifth EC in a row. :)

Ask any Faringian (or whatever they are called in English) about Landskrona and I promise you, they'll know what you're talking about - can the French claim anything similar? :D

I'm lost. Specially since I've googled "farigian" I have surrealists ideas in my mind now.

In the first official UEFA national team game ever in the history of the Faeroe Islands (or however you spell their name), they famously beat Austria 1:0 in september 1990 in Landskrona, Sweden (because at that time there was not a single usable grass football pitch on their islands), and apparently that event was more or less part of the founding myth of the nation of the Faroe Islands. :D
From what I understand I'm quite certain that every single citizen of the Faroe Islands knows Austria and Landskrona, and Torkil Nielsen and Jens Knudsen - as does every Austrian who followed football at that time. ;)

This is what I call "losing with elegance" :techman:
They should make an habit of it, specially next month ;)

I've read that the Austrian national coach at that time still recieved a giant fish at every anniversary of that game as a present from the Faroe Islands. :D

We can send them better than a giant fish if they lose next month
(yes, I'm trying corruption...)
