Scary moments for kids in the original series!

Mitchell's eyes, voice and telekinesis in Where No Man Has Gone Before

The aforementioned:
* Charlie X faceless woman;
* The Salt Sucker from The Man Trap; and
* Balok on the end credits.

The crystallisaton and crushing death of the female yeoman in By Any Other Name

There are, no doubt, others but these are the only ones that spring to mind.

The first time I watched The Devil in the Dark as a kid. The opening scene with the attack and the charred remains left behind. Powerful stuff for me as a little kid. The rest of the show down in the cave tunnels was scary until the reveal at the end.

I rewatched this one a couple of weeks ago. You know what scared me this time? How the guys in the jumpsuits clubbed a redshirt to death. I hadnt noticed that before. Freaked the shit outta me!

When I was a kid, the creatures from "Operation Annihilate" used to scare me a lot. I really couldn't watch when one of those fried egg things attacked Spock. Then you see all these people suffering from terrible PAIN, and - as the cherry of the cake - Spock gets blinded by the high intensity light, and remarks that it is an "equitable trade". That moment just put me over the edge - still gives me the creeps...

Rewatched this one too recently. Kirk's sister-in-law screamed her bloody ass off...it was very disturbing!

Balok, and i am not even sure who was scarier, the puppet or Clint Howard.

:guffaw:Right on the money YRandi. Can I offer you some tranya? ;)

But I will say, to a 5 year old, not only the puppet Balok, but the way he seemed to wield his power in such a melevolent way towards the E was pretty scary.

When I was little, few things in Classic TOS were scarier than Gary Mitchell's sliver, glowing eyes. (*Shudders*) To this day I still get a little creeped out by that makeup!:p

Top of the list for me would have to be the attacks in "Devil in the Dark", committed by an unknown something only seen by the victim who screamed in horror at the last moment before being reduced to a smoking smear on the floor. Saw that episode for the first time when I was eight, and it was pretty scary stuff whenever the "monster" was around, right up until "NO KILL I" got etched into the stone.

Another thing I recall was Balok's puppet, but since I didn't actually see "The Corbomite Maneuver" until some time later in reruns, I didn't know it was a puppet. I didn't know anything about it at all, except that there was this strange face staring out from behind the end credits -- always found it kind of creepy.

The Gorn. Kirk would run and run but he just couldn't get away. He would fight and roll a whole avalanche down on it but it just wouldn't die! Gave me nightmares for years. I also had nightmares about being chased along a beach by a giant bouncing ball and there was just no way to get away. I think that was from The Prisoner.

Here's a weird question: When Kirk was in Janice Lester's body, do you think he took his/her clothes off to get an eyefull in a mirror? I mean, Janice WAS kinda hot...

Is that scary?

Well, I don't know if it's scary but I'd have done it... :techman:

You guys would never get anything done if it was the male of the species that had breasts!

Yeah, the faceless woman in Charlie X freaked me out.... and I was 26

Yep, the woman getting her face erased still creeps me out too. The way she moans as she can't breathe...gah, gives me the chills every time.

Rok in "What are little girls made of" scared the shit out of me as a kid, as was the discovery that Dr Korby was an android.

Hey, if any of you are in the NYC viewing area, "Charlie X" is on Channel 11 right now (at 1 am), so you can see that scary moment again in HD.

I say this not to diminish your fright at all, but to point out what I considered humorous.

As a young boy, my grandfather used to take me to the House of Humor to get novelty humor items such as fake snakes in cans, two-headed nickels, and so on. These stores also sold novelty vomit.

As a teen, I saw that episode, and immediately thought those creatures looked like novelty vomit (in fact, on the blu-ray commentary, it is mentioned that they was novelty vomit in plastic or something similar).

But here's the funny part—as soon as one of the novelty vomits was shot and falls to the ground, the landing party gathers round and the Yeoman says:

"Captain...it doesn't even look real!"
:rommie:

Heh. :)
