Big Brother is Watching-How do You cope?

Mistral

I know it's hard to stay anonymous in our modern electronic age but I do what I can. I fake addresses and birthdates when I register on web sites, alter vital facts about myself where I can and generally create an artificial persona online. What do you do? Do you do anything-or are you actually telling the Internet everything about you?

If I am registering my address on a website, it's only because I expect to receive something in the mail from them (buying something from amazon, for example).

Mostly, though, when I know Big Brother is watching, I just turn on my webcam and masturbate in front of him. :p

I been known to use a fake identity information online. Anything that doesn't require payment information, I use a pre-constructed set of ID information; zip codes, variations on my real name, disposable e-mail addresses, bio information with varying degrees of personal details. All the informatin is real-- based on my real life, places I've lived and workd, etc-- but just not current or neceassairly complete; but enough so that as not to be an out and out lie. I actually have 3 sets of such information that are used depending of the category of the site I'm registering for: Fansites, Political messageboard, and/or hobby. Got the idea from an attorney for a paper I used to work for; who believed in a strict, hard, edge between online life and real life. The only thing he told me to be sure of: don't fuck with people (troll, stalk, use it to finagle information out of them for a article, etc, etc) with the psudeo fake accounts.

Ans before anyone asks, no this account isn't one of them, I use(d) my real info on here simply cause I joined here before I started-- or had even thought-- of the practice. Seeing as when I started online ('95) the proper online ettitque-- at least as I had been show/taught-- was create one (1) online identity and use it exclusively and don't run around with a million accounts.

I like this answer Jolly Roger...does Big Brother usually join in as well?

That's just...creepy

Oh stop being such a prude! :p As a matter of fact...grab some lotion and join on in.

I tend to use my stage identity, which has a different background (nothing major, just in terms of where I grew up, went to school etc). If anyone stole it they'd be stealing a lie, essentially.

It works offline too. Most people know me by a stage name, if someone shouts it when I'm out I don't respond.

Thanks-a few of the replies seem to be pulling the thread off course.:scream:

I know! Some people are so rude just taking over others hard worked threads....they probably do that because every thread they've ever created was a dismal failure. I'm just hypothesizing (sp) because I stay focused!!

I's be Cakes488 everywhere I go. I decided to tell you all my name....which I never ever do because I like you, each and every one of you in your own special way. :adore:
