Noel Gallagher leaves Oasis

Surprise, surprise. What I expected from this thread; people just slagging them off.

Hmm, I'd say go back and listen to your shit likes The Kooks and Kaiser Chiefs if you don't like them so much

To be fair most of it is either "They were still around?" or "This is unsurprising" what do you expect, they're not exactly high profiles any more and this has happened once or twice before.

Still around? Not high profile?
Maybe if you're an American (and then what do you know?), but love them or hate them I don't see how one can say that in Britain.
I don't think you pull off a recent tour starting with a three day show at Heaton Park with 70,000 people each day if you're some obsecure band no one cares about.

Unless you're one of those people who say "oh yeah I like Oasis" and the only songs you know are Wonderwall & Don't Look Back in Anger and are completely clueless otherwise, ie. not a fan of any music at all really

Not a fan, not a radio listener, seen them in the news exactly 3 times lately, once for not playing a gig, once because they were playing a local gig and once because they were splitting up.
I know they released an album not long ago, but didn't particularly care for it.

I'm reading the thread because I thought it might be interesting, and I thought the Jimmy Carr quote was funny so posted it. Before you say why am I posting in a thread I have no interest in.

And as I said what did you expect on a board mostly populated by Americans?

Ethros, I'm not sure if you're actually a fan of Oasis, or you're proving your own point, but Oasis aren't that big of a deal. Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory have been the only two good albums they've done. Aside from a few good songs, the rest of the albums have been very below the bar, and I'm saying this as an Oasis fan. Dig Out Your Soul was an "okay" album, but that's it.

And, to be fair, there are a lot better British bands out there than Oasis.

Oh, quick edit - I'm English.

Funnily enough, I've been listening to the Beatles today. And the Stone Roses. :p

I'll admit that I misread your post and was thinking you'd suddenly become a Twitter follower of Jimmy Tarbuck. :guffaw:

They managed without Liam for a short few whiles, and their line-up has changed a lot over the years (remember Guigsy and Bonehead?). It's somewhat presumptuous to think that without Noel, there's no band. On the other hand, most if not all their best musical moments came with Noel, so whatever big direction they take it will certainly be a different Oasis.
I think if they (Liam & Noel) keep making music, I'd rather they just had seperate outfits. Liam started Oasis before Noel joined, but if there is no comeback for Noel I'd prefer Liam to just start fresh with a new band (or with Andy & Gem) rather than keep the Oasis name.
As that similar argument for Guns N' Roses would rear it's head. "ooh is it really GNR with only Axl Rose, etc"

Somewhat of a different band, but I'd prefer a Blink 182 situation, where Mark Hoppus & Tom Delonge just each formed new bands (+44 and Angels & Airwaves)
And then hopefully like those two, they make up and get back together after a few years and reform Blink 182/Oasis

^ I just wish Andy Bell played more guitar. He's the best guitarist in Oasis by far. He can't sing for shit, but he's a damn fine guitarist.

Meh. They have some good songs (hate Wonderwall, though, wishy washy) but I'm put off them because Liam is a giant cock. If he retired and Noel kept going, I could live with that.
