God, this just makes me sick.

If anyone remembers the Fritzl case in Austria, or if anyone has read Fearful Symmetry, this is a very similar case.



And maybe it's that cold "Cardassian" blood in me--but this is why I think Louisiana had the right idea and rapists should not be allowed to live. I mean, if this guy had been executed for his PREVIOUS rape, this would never have happened.

I'm afraid I'm not going to offer any more comment on this myself--this just makes me SICK.
 
I just heard about this. I tried to look up a picture of the guy to see if I recognized him as one of the "regular crazies" on campus.

I'm opposed to the death penalty as it is, but even with murder mistakes have been made and innocent people sentenced to death row. Expanding it to rape cases is opening a whole new can of worms and a much greater possibility of the innocent being wrongly accused and convicted. Plus, it's a disproportionate response that would remove one of the few justifications a lot of people use to support capital punishment.

This is just a general commentary about capital punishment in rape cases, not about this case specifically, though I would still oppose capital punishment, even as horrible as this crime was.

If people were executed for DUI there'd be fewer fatalities on the roads too.

Unless the executions were carried out on the road, of course.
 
What's sad is however many stories you hear about sex slaves and/or sex trafficking, there are a helluva lot more you don't hear.

I think the last story I saw about a gal being held as a sex captive was someone who was being held by her own father!!!! :mad:

Yeah was watching CNN and damn...18 years. I had my batman face on for most of what I saw. The guy's comments too were disturbing, he thinks we'll feel all warm and fuzzy about how he turned his life around and that the victim will tell nothing but happy things about her time with them. Disgusting.

There was another situation in Italy since Fitzl I believe. Its truly scary to consider how many other girls/woman boys and even men who might be out there in similar situations and for whom there is never a happy ending. :(
 
there was a guy in town here about 6 years ago that had a dungeon in his back yard . . . Jamelske

The city in which she was found is right next door to mine...pretty shocking that something like this was happening just 10-15 miles away. I'm glad she's alive but that's a terrible situation. Those kids will now continue to grow up knowing they're only alive because their dad kidnapped their mom when she was a little girl. :(

There was a case in the UK that came to light about the same time has fritzl.
There brother tried to report it but the police did not believe him and they kept social servers away by moving around lot.
 
Read about this in today's paper myself. This is sick and disgusting. I mean it's just horrendously tragic.

This guy should be drug naked across a field of broken glass and then fed to a pool full of sharks with frickin laser-beams tied to their heads.

Seriously, it's shocking to me someone so sick and fucked up could exsist.

And how this all happened over the course of the last 18 years and no one notices he has a girl trapped and living in a shed in his back yard is astounding to me.

Either he's a criminal and urban prison mastermind or his neighbors all had their heads up their asses.

The really bad thing is that poor woman will never, ever, be right again.

Yeah, that's the part that gets to me. If they guy was on probation shouldn't his property have been searched now and then?
 
Or if he was on parole for kidnappping shouldn't he of been one of the first places they looked when a young girl turned up kidnapped?
