G'Bye Diet, Pasta Bowl's Back!

Anyone else get really excited for Olive Garden's Never Ending Pasta Bowl, and then go and gorge themselves on it?

We went last Tuesday and tonight, and I must say I'm stuffed from orichetti. What a pleasant time of year for dining!

We don't have Olive Garden in Canada any more, so no.

Anyway, I prefer my Italian food to actually resemble Italian food, so it's all good.

I don't pretend that it's Italian. I eat it for what it is. Noodles in tomato sauce with meatballs.

I can't eat enough to make a neverending anything worth ordering. I have been craving Italian lately, though. Manicotti sounds so good right about now. Problem is, Italian at 10:52pm is NOT a good idea. ;)

Yes! I will be going to Olive Garden next month and I can't wait!

Oh, and for those of you folks who don't like Olive Garden, well bleh, I live in a crappy little town, and the Olive Garden's the only decent restaurant we have.

Or Outback Steakhouse, at least in Ontario. What's up with major chains disappearing like that? (My brother says there's an Olive Garden in BC, so I think it's just Ontario)
I have to admit, even though I lived in an italian-Canadian city like Windsor, I still miss Olive Garden the most. Although they've been a little too free with the salt shaker lately....

I've thought about trying the Neverending Pasta Bowl, but I'm always full after the first plate that I don't think I could do it. Then again, I could always just take the second one home for later... :shifty:

As it turns out, there's more to Canada than Ontario. :p I never go to eat at them, but there's at least two still in Edmonton.

Really? I was under the impression they'd pulled a K-Mart and just pulled out of the whole country.

Oh well. Ontario obviously has some taste. :p

Hoser, I wonder if it's because if it's because we have so many strong chain restaurants in Canada: East Side Mario's, Montana's, Kelsey's, Swiss Chalet\St. Hubert, etc.

We do have an Olive Garden here in BC - I love it! There are also a couple of Olive Gardens in Winnipeg. So Canada definitely has its share!

I love going there - trouble is, I tend to overdo it with the salad and breadsticks. Burp!

My little brother keeps using it as an excuse for me to move out there. We have one in Flint, but if I take my family back to Windsor we'll have to border cross to go there.

Not that I can't make most of what they make there, except the minestrone. :/ I love their minestrone, although again the last few times they were heavy on the salt.

I went last year. My roommate supposedly knew where the local Olive Garden was, but he didn't. We missed the turn and did a nice 45 minute loop around scenic State College. It was a nice drive, with all of the leaves turning and everything. It's also fun to get lost (we weren't super lost as the ridges make it fairly easy to know in which general direction to head) and just drive aimlessly around hills for a bit.

I think I made it through 3 bowls.

I've never had it but I can't imagine wanting neverending anything!

Also, I am by no means a food snob, but I've been to the Olive Garden exactly twice and both times been entirely disappointed in the food. My husband likes the food, so I'm wondering if I just order the wrong dishes. What are favorites around here? I like things with lots of garlic, and not too much tomato. I'm open to giving the restaurant another chance!

You're probably not ordering the wrong dishes. It's just that the food is mass-produced crap. That's not me being a food snob, that's me having a strong dislike for white sauces that have been frozen and shipped across the country, and are then microwaved to order. I much prefer the food from any of the authentic Italian restaurants in the area.

Besides, you're in Chicago, for God's sake! You've got Gioco! Trattoria No. 10! Quartino! Dinotto! What the hell are you doing at places like Olive Garden? :p

Olive Garden used to be real food with everything made to order. I think it was in the last 5-10 years that they switched to frozen and mass-produced food.

Frankly, if I want cheap "Italian" food, I go to Fazoli's. They have a drive-thru, and they have better breadsticks.

I'm not in the city yet! I'm still in exile in the suburbs and will probably be until next year! We haven't even put our house on the market yet.

I'm guessing you're not in the city anymore. Where have you been exiled to?
