Proclaim Your Ignorance

What is a subject that most/many people have knowledge of but you are ignorant of?

For me it is cars.

I cannot drive and have never been interested in learning to drive.

I can't even tell one make of car from the other. I have no idea what make of car my neighbour owns even though I see her driving her car every day. All I know is that it is white.

Cars are a pretty good example. I know how to drive a car, I have a general idea of which brands of cars are expensive. Aside from that, I have no idea.

Is that all forms of football or one code in particular?

I know a little about Australian Rules Football but I am ignorant of any other code of football. I don't even know the difference between Rugby Union and Rugby League.

Is that all forms of football or one code in particular?

Mostly American football, I don't get exposed to other forms of it regularly. But even then, I understand very little about football, I find it rather boring to watch actually. It just sort of looks like 2 seconds of throwing followed by 5 minutes of standing around (that always bugged me when I was a kid, I hated it when they stopped the clock - I figured, GET ON WITH IT already! )

And I definitely don't care about the bloody Super Bowl. I don't even know what a First Down is, how pathetic is that? It just seems like everyone else in the country is a football fan except me. Then again, I usually assume that about everything - I'm genuinely surprised if there are other people who have the same tastes as me.

I'm just enjoying the baseball season as long as I can, because baseball is the only sport I really care about.

And I forgot SEX. That's right. I know absolutely nothing about SEX at all.

Me neither.

I only recently (last 2 years) got into baseball. And now I am completely hooked, with the zeal of the newly converted. I hope I can stay that way for awhile. I finally found something to enjoy. Might as well run with it. :)

I don't ever see that happening with football though. As I said I don't enjoy watching it at all. Maybe this is because one of the things that *got* me hooked on baseball is the fact that I can easily see it when I visit New York, whereas the closest football stadium is way out in NJ and I can't get there easily. Oh well, right now I really don't care, I'm sticking with baseball and nothing else. :p

A lot that have already been mentioned:

-Cars. I have one, I know how to drive it, but if you asked me to identify a specific make and model on sight, I wouldn't have a clue. And car repair? Don't even get me started...

-Sports. Any and all. Never liked playing them, never had any interest in watching them. I mean, I know the most basic rules of the more popular games, but beyond that, bupkis.

-Politics, specifically economics. I know that when it comes to social policies, I lean quite strongly to the left, but when it comes to other matters, I'm sadly not very knowledgeable. It's probably why I don't go into TNZ that often.

-Women, and by extension, sex; my experience there is quite limited. Believe me, I'd really like to explore my sexual side, but I'm so damn bad with women, my prospects aren't exactly great.

-I feel really ashamed to admit this one on this board, but I also have to add computers/technology. I can use the internet (obviously), and with enough practice, I can get the hang of most programs, but I hardly ever experiment with any. For example, I've never once used photoshop, to name a popular application. As for other technology, my cellphone is quite basic, has very few features, and I hardly ever use it. I don't have an I-Pod, or anything similar. It took me years to get onto Facebook, and I didn't even have an e-mail address until I went to university several years ago.

Heck, I tried to join the Trek BBS back in 2003, but for some reason, I couldn't, and I could never figure out what the problem was. I tried again a couple years later, but still, nothing. So I just remained a lurker for all those years, until finally, this year, I decided to give it one more try... and it worked. Maybe there's hope for me yet. ;)

Physics and complex mathematics. All those numbers make my brain go explodey.

Not that most people have a knowledge of physics, but it's not exactly a rare discipline, either.

@Mr. Laser Beam: See, if you grew up in the South, then you'd be properly indoctrinated into the football culture. And that's *college* football, not that overpaid pro crap.

As for what I know nothing about, it's how to fix anything on a car. Sure, I can lift the hood and stare with the best of them, but don't ask me to do anything!

I know pretty much nothing on the subject of football. I also don't know much about music, or fashion. Pretty lousy about all those things, really.

Football and cars. Being a British male... thats not good...

I remember my CCTV practical exam. For part of it I had to identity a car and without searching for type or logo all I could get from looking at it was "It's a red.... uh... car."
