One or more books at a time

Are you currently reading more than one book?

I have four books going at the moment - one Cat Who novel, a book about the history of the Taj Mahal, a book about crows and ravens and a "Glassblowing Mystery" novel.

Which actual one of these I pick up depends on my mood. The glassblowing mystery is light reading and can fit into my handbag so I read it at the bus-stop. The Cat Who story in a hardback 3 novels in one so it is far too big to carry around in my bag.

My best friend says that she can only read one book at a time and thinks it is a bit odd for me to be reading books the way that I do.

Depends on the topics. Generally, I can't read more than one thing at a time on a topic, unless it's something I'm studying. So I can read a fiction novel, a non fiction, a manual, etc, but never more than one in each slot. If I'm studying something, then I can read 3 or 4 books at a time to get the whole picture.

I usually have several books going at once - usually around 3 or 4. But I rarely have more than 1, or at most 2, fiction novels going at a time. If I have more than 2 novels going, I tend to get plots/characters confused - especially since I often put down a book for days before picking it up again and also because I really only read 2 genres - detective novels and spy novels, so stories can be similar at times.

Typically I'll have one novel going, and 2 to 3 non-fiction books - usually history, biography, or travel.

I generally have two books on the go at any time. One star trek book and one crime, thriller, or fantasy book. currently it's a star trek book and an action thriller.

Occasionally I'll read that in addition to a more recent trek book. i'll be picking up The Never Ending Sacrifice from my grandmother on sunday.

I only read one at a time. There's been a few times I've had two going at once, but then I just tend to quit reading one until I finish the other. And I only read fiction, I can't really get into nonfiction.

At the moment not reading any books at all. I rarely take on more than one at a time.

I'm usually reading two at a time. If I'm not particularly enjoying one of them, but still intend to finish it, that one may go really slowly while I read whatever book is in the other slot. There are times where I may read half a dozen other books in the time it takes me to read the other.

I like being able to switch off.

I usually have two going at a time, typically one fiction and one non-fiction. I also read a lot of free first chapters on my Kindle to see what I want to purchase in the future.

I usually have one that I'm reading during breaks at work, and one at home. Currently, at work I'm re-reading Rainbow Six and at home it's Paul of Dune.

The more books I have on the go at the same time, the less I'm enjoying the one I'm meant to be reading, as a rule. If I really like a book, I'll power through it till the end and read nothing else. If it's a bit 'meh', I'll meander through the bookshelf for something else now and then.

Haha I always read more than one book...sometimes up to five going. Right now I have two. World War II The Definitive Visual History and Annilhation Wave Book Two graphic novel.

I love books!
I had to stop myself from buying more than I could afford on my last trip to the Nobelion (a friend of mine used to call Barnes & Noble 'the Nobelion' it stuck :D)

Currently reading the Heritage of Shannara series, as well as the Word and the Void series by Terry Brooks

I'm the same way. If I'm tempted to pick up another novel, that usually says something about the one I'm reading.

To clarify my earlier post, I usually have one book that I read during the day and one that I read before going to bed. Since the Trek books are mostly MMPBs I tend to read them at night.

I've got two going on right now. I'll usually stop reading something in favor of a just released book or a book I've had trouble finding.

Wow, you ready for this. I have:

The Histories - Polybius
On the Life of the Caesars - Seutonius
The Age of Alexander: Nine Greek Lives - Plutarch
Conquest of Gaul - Julius Caesar
History of the Peloponnesian War - Thucydides

And that is just my classics....

I always have an indeterminate number of books going on. I'm usually reading a novel, plus I have various anthologies lying around that I dip into, plus all the fiction magazines that I get; and then there's all the Science and Nature magazines; and I may be reading a non-fiction book at any given time; and cartoon books; and comics.
