RoJoHen's Abdominal Halloween Challenge!

The problem I had today was that I went to a brand-new grocery store, so they had all sorts of fancy displays and things...

I bought a lot of meats and vegetables...but I also may have bought some Dove ice cream bars. I think I'm going to try to keep those for breakfast.

May have? In what vicinity to your mouth are these alleged Dove bars?

One of them was in my mouth about 30 seconds after I got in the car!

I suck at this game.

BUT! I figure it's better to allow myself one treat per day than to completely eliminate the stuff. Better for my mood anyway.

Abs are serious business my friend. They are like ostriches with their heads buried in sand. Only with great effort can you coax them out!

RAMA-Who has great experience with ostriches and knows these things...

Indeed.

Well, I still have hope. I remain alcohol-free, and I have been doing cardio every day. I did, however, spend all day Saturday vomiting for no discernible reason, so I'm already about 10 pounds lighter!

'ey, guys. I've seen some "colon cleansers" at GNC health store. I think I have a pretty good idea what they do. :shifty: I've had barium enema more than I can remember. Do they help with weight loss?

New thing I'm gonna try: cardio as soon as I get up. Not much, probably just a brisk walk for 20-30 minutes, but something to get my body jump-started for the day. I normally spend the first 1-2 hours of my day laying around.

I feel bad when I don't get to use my home elliptical machine even for a day. One other thing I have considered is to buy a treadmill (not necessarily the expensive kind, maybe something in the $500 - $600 range). My dad and I have talked about it before, since other family members could benefit from using it, especially for winter and during cold and wet months.

I definitely wish I had an elliptical machine at home. It's pretty much the only form of cardio I can stand, and it would come in handy on days when the weather is crappy.

Maybe once I find a more permanent residence I will invest in something like that.

This one I'm using is actually a "gift" from my sister, who decided to buy a treadmill instead. This is a ProForm XP130 that she got from Sears for about $400. The first one I bought (from the same store) was a Nordic Track back in 2007 that cost a little over $1000. One of the parts came loose, the clamp that attached to the spinning part that supported the pedaling bar (hard to deescribe). Anyway, it was still covered under warranty, so I reordered replacement parts, and they shipped me the wrong ones last year. :vulcan: I was too busy getting ready to move and didn't bother to get it fixed. Was good while it lasted; I liked the MP3 player connection.

You may lose a few pounds, but its just matter...you want to lose fat, and maybe a bit of water. Cleanses are fine, but they are not serious weight loss tools.

All I know is my increase in daily fiber has helped things run a lot smoother, and I feel generally healthier overall.

I thought about using the colon cleanser but don't really see the point now. Besides, the experience is too unpleasant.

I have it on good authority that RoJo just ordered 2 large pizzas.

For himself.

Your abs just hit the "do not like" button.

It is entirely possible I am going to give up on this plan. Not because I can't do it, but because I have changed my Halloween costume and will no longer need to display my stomach. :p

Plus, it's getting chilly, and I like to use fall/winter as a time for bulking up. I'm still going to do cardio and Core workouts like I've been doing, so I might end up meeting my goal anyway, but I'm not going to worry specifically about my abs anymore. Hopefully they will just be a nice side-effect of the rest of my workouts.

I will revisit this goal around March. Having abs in time for summer seems to make more sense than having abs in time for Halloween.

Well, you have approximately two months to go, so you never know. If I may ask, are you on any special diet?

My last doctor's visit revealed that I actually lost some pounds, as I have been eating mostly salads for lunch. For us Asian Americans, though, dinner is typically the biggest meal of the day, and my dad and mom usually cook a ton of food, though lately I've reduced my rice intake. I'm going to look for brown rice (especially now that I'm a diabetic).

Good luck.

I've been eating especially clean for over a week, my waist has shrunk down quickly. Its been awhile since I was this strict, and it feels great!

RAMA

That's good to hear, RAMA.

Until recently, I didn't care at all to eat mostly veggies for lunch (and some fruit) during the workweek. I always knew that I had the willpower and determination to lead me and keep me on the right path and try to eat a healthful diet, but I guess I got careless during the past few years. In my early 20s I was actually diagnosed as "pre-diabetic," and that really scared the heck out of me because I was still very young back then and didn't want to deal with the consequences of living with diabetes. So I became more active and watched what I ate. From my mid-20s to early 30s, I went to the gym religiously and was more mindful of my food intake, and for awhile, my cholesterol level and other numbers went down.

In recent years, though, I became just a bit self-indulgent (going to Starbucks to get my iced espresso, satisfying my sweet tooth cravings, etc.), and combined with slowed metabolism as I hit my 30s, that carefree lifestyle has really taken a toll on my health. I just hope that this time around, this isn't just another "healthy phase" I'm going through, but a more permanent one. :)
