Singly most hated & despised ep of the whole 79

^ I like both of those episodes.

I would have chosen Plato's Stepchildren, And the Children Shall Lead or The Way to Eden.

No, no, no. "Spock's Brain" is pure cheesy goodness. It can't be that bad if it also makes you laugh, and it makes me laugh hard. On the other hand, everything about "The Paradise Syndrome" just makes me cringe with embarrassment for the actors, except that it was nice to see an episode shot on location. "And the Children Shall Lead" is cringe-worthy, too.

Edit: And now that you mention it, I wouldn't mind never, ever seeing "Plato's Stepchildren" again. Yuck-a-rama.

It is the giver of pain, not delight.:(

I give it a pass for showing the Enterprise in Earth's sky- original AND remastered! Plus: lots of funny moments.

They NEED to show Spock's Brain, The Apple & And The Children Shall Lead to violent criminals to destroy their lower brain function & cut the thorazine bill.

Hands down, no question in my mind, "And the Children Shall Lead" is the absolute worst. The bloody ridiculous music cue with each. and. every. fist. pump. from the infernally wretched and mind-numbingly awful children is enough to give me seizures (figuratively speaking, of course). And the fact that this horrid bit is repeated ad nauseam throughout the entire episode makes me want to become a violent criminal (figurative speaking, of course). :p

It's gotta be "Plato's Stepchildren." Say what you will about the other episodes. At least they had a plot, where "Stepchildren" is nothing but someone's idea to humiliate Shatner and Nimoy. And what's the message? That being a bully is a bad thing? Give me a BREAK!

No, the message is to be careful with your power or the meek might rise up unexpectedly & eff you up. It was to demonstrate the idea that power corrupts, and explore the lack of corruption in the next who gains it, and why.:techman:
But again, everyone speaks English. Sorry, it's my pet Trek peeve.
It should have been Greek.

The Apple and Spock's brain are fun episodes there are others I find more boring. Plato's Step Children, and Alternative Factor are a couple of them. One episode, Miri, was one I used to like a lot when I was young but for some reason that episode hasn't aged well for me.

I also must confess The Way to Eden is one of my favorite episodes! The main reason is I just love 1960s culture and this one pays a nice homage to that time period. Plus the blond gal who sings with Spock is a real hottie in my book.

Well I've never seen "The Apple" and "The Way to Eden", but while I thought "Spock's Brain" was pretty stupid, I also think it's rather harmless and inoffensive. "And the Children Shall Lead" and "Plato's Stepchildren", on the other hand, are real travesties and each leave a very ugly stain on the series. They both made me really angry. Especially the latter for what it put Shatner and Nimoy through. Not just the worst Star Trek episode I've ever seen, but perhaps the worst episode of television (at least out of shows I generally like) that I've ever seen.

The Alternative Factor. It is just simultaneously dull and confusing. Not a good combination. All of the others I think even if you don't like them have a silliness factor to make them novel.

Come on guys. Plato's Stepchildren is so funny. I admit to having a somewhat immature sense of humor, but if you all can watch the Horsey Kirk scene without cracking a smile, well, I don't know whether I'm saddened or impressed.

(On a serious note, yes, I do understand why it makes this list. However, for that scene alone, I just gotta show it some love.)

(PS. If someone made an animated avatar of Kirk as a horse, I'd happily wear it, albeit to the chagrin of other members :) )

One episode I didn't care for as much as the others was The Return of the Archons, primarily because of the lack of explanation for Festival. Perhaps they wanted the audience to infer the reasons behind it, but it struck me as the writers simply neglecting to wrap it up.

It's all very painful to see; I take it seriously as a form of torture in humiliation, though not like waterboarding, which I, like others in America present day see as the REAL thing. :(

Festival was the way of releasing & purging the pent-up emotions created by the laws of Landru, an idiot program based on a deranged prophet dumped on the planet by mistake.

I saw it as torture, too. It's almost as if they were trying to make a comedy out of torture. On the flipside, though, I do wonder if they made it super silly to get the "torture" scenes past the censors. It's really the only explanation I can give for why the episode ended up the way it did.

But that doesn't make the scenes any easier to watch, mind you.

Is it just me, or did Landru look like a hairdresser? "Fethtivaaal!"

"And the Children Shall Lead" (whose writers need to sue Stephen "Children of the Corn" King) or "Miri"

Evil children...ugh.

Charlie X is okay, because he's an evil teen. Most teens are evil anyway.
