"Worst" Movie Screened on MST3K

Ahh, Neil Connery, Scotland's national treasure. It's frightening how much he looks like his brother.

Mitchell. It's not even science fiction, or horror, or fantasy. It's a trashy cop movie that is so bad, even the guys can't save it.
Mitchell is one of my all time favorites. It's so bad it's good just in its own right (it's got the best car "chase" of all time). Then the guys get a hold of it and really go to town.

All of these pale to the genius that is...

Turkish Star Wars a.k.a. Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam

It must be seen to be believed. It's so legendary for being bad (really bad) that they made a fairly recent sequel because of how famous it has become for being bad.

Here's the infamous training montage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBb_VnkMJRU

Well... this isn't much better...

Indian Superman (And his girlfriend, Spidergirl! Did I mention it was a Bollywood musical?)

Ed Wood films are actually good next to these.

If we're only talking about American steaming piles of crap... Eegah! is a contender.

I think you've missed the point of the thread. This is only for movies riffed on the tv series Mystery Science Theater 3000. Eegah is the only one of those movies that was featured on MST3K. (And given that much discussion has been made of Japan's Invasion of the Neptune Men, obviously non-American MST'ed movies are fair game.)

Now see, I liked it when they did non-SF/F movies. Bad SF/F movies are a dime a dozen but a regular movie usually had to be especially repugnant to get the attention of the MST3K guys. I'm particularly a fan of the really sleazy 1970s movies they did-- "Mitchell," "Sidehackers," "Girl in Gold Boots." They're so filthy I feel I need to shower afterwards.

They did a lot of movies that were especially bad in very unique ways.

"The Starfighters" is totally lacking in any kind of plot or conflict. "The Skydivers" is only slightly better.

"The Creeping Terror" wins the technical incompetence award. The director lost all of the sound for the movie, so he just put narration over everything, including the dialogue scenes. Believe me, "The Creeping Terror" makes "Monster A-Go-Go" look like Kubrick.

"Hobgoblins" wins the totally tasteless award. I truly have no idea what these filmmakers were thinking at any stage of the writing or shooting process, nor how the editors refrained from suicide.

Their most ill-advised riff? Probably "Catalina Caper." This is why they didn't do comedies that often. Although I think it still works.

"Manos: The Hands of Fate" seems especially engineered to inflict maximum pain. It's so slow that you find yourself begging for something, ANYTHING to happen, and then... Torgo shows up and you wish you could just unwish it all. (BTW, here's a photo of me from last Halloween dressed as Torgo.

Pointless name drop: I once met Joe Estevez, brother to Martin Sheen and star of such MST3K films as "Soultaker" & "Werewolf." Of course, I had no idea who he was at the time. You see, I was an actor in an excruciatingly crappy teen thriller called "The Last Class." We were shooting in the old, condemned Monroe School in downtown Phoenix. On the floor below us, Joe Estevez was shooting a movie called "Autopsy: A Love Story." They needed extras to be corpses in the morgue scenes. I volunteered. While we were waiting for them to set up, Estevez & I had a conversation about acting, the business, etc. He seemed like a nice guy.

Incidentally, both of these movies are available on Amazon & Netflix.

In the recent, official, DVD release of "Soultaker" Joe Estevez has an taped interview/discussion about "Soultaker" and MST he seemed to like the "experience" of it, probably why he did the interview for Shout.

He does seem like a nice guy and I agree with Crow that he was an under-appreciated actor.

:)

"Hobgoblins" I believe was even submitted to MST by its own director.

I didn't think he lost the sound, just that he couldn't afford to have sound equipment on the set and locations, so he just shot it silent and dubbed a soundtrack on separately (so that every line of dialogue is delivered while a character is offscreen or facing away from the camera). I think there are two or three MST3K movies like that.

Manos was like that but, no, for "The Creeping Terror" the sound was lost so they had to dub in the narrator's voice. Both Wikipedia and MST's Wiki confirm this.

I think that Beast Of Yucca Flats was shot without a sound on purpose and the dialog and narration were added later. Every line of dialog is also delivered when actors are facing away from the camera.

^That must be the one I'm thinking of. That was one of the Coleman Francis films, wasn't it?
I think so. It's the one where Tor Jonhson was wandering for about 50 minutes in some desert and the narrator said stuff like "Flag on the moon ... How did it get there?", something about progress and there are random tits in the beginning.

It's the absolute worst movie ever made. Next to it, stuff like Manos:Hands Of Fate or Plan 9 look like Oscar material ...

Was Attack of the Neptune Men the movie that caused Servo to get sick and even got Mike so disillusioned he walked out of the theater into the vaccum of the bridge?

I've got that beat. I got to meet Joel.

I also met Frank Conniff, Trace Beaulieu, Mary Jo Pehl and J. Elvis Weinstein. They are doing a project called Cinematic Titanic now. I went to see a couple of their live shows.
