It's quite possible to be emotionally attached to someone without being physically attracted to them (the opposite is, of course, far more common). I've been told by a homosexual man that he'd fallen in love with women several times (despite not feeling one iota of sexual attraction towards them), and it's a thing that seems to be able to cross all boundaries of gender and orientation.
If Thames feels the same way about you as you do about him, then I wouldn't worry about the whole question of 'orientation' just yet. It's quite possible for both of you to be heterosexual, even though you're in love with each other.
