I agree with the principle - until May, Trek was completely devoid of any hot guys - but disagree with the specifics. nuKirk = the first real eye candy Trek has ever had, on the male side of things. (If we're just going on appearances, not personalities, I completely do not understand the love for Spock, either old or new.)

I disagree that there have been no sexy men in trek before the new film. Dr. Bashir is pretty cute, and, as far as sexy older men go, Patrick Stewart is at the top of the list. But I really cant complain about that new Chekov either.

Voted for Kira Nerys. There's something about her (and Nana Visitor) that I find irresistable.

I disagree, too - although those two wouldn't be my choices, and the new Chekov would even less be - and obviously, so did many other people (or else you'd see 0 votes next to the names of all non-ST09 males :vulcan: )

    My choices would be:

TOS - definitely Spock :adore: If I were to pick someone else, it would have been Mark Lenard's characters. Kirk was handsome and could be charming - but he was always overshadowed by Spock as far as I am concerned. Pike was matinee idol handsome, but he didn't do it for me. Out of the guest stars: Flavius Maximus from "Bread and Circuses", young Khan, Apollo, and the ilusionary "crewman" who was actually Salt Vampire trying to seduce Uhura in "The Man Trap".

TNG - I didn't vote for anyone, since I don't find any of them incredibly sexy, but Data was very cute, and Riker has his moments before he got fat (even though he could be annoying). I had a little crush on him when I was about 13; now, not so much. I can see Picard's appeal, but for some reason I never felt that way about him. As for the guest stars, whoever said Roga Danar, good choice.

DS9 - Dukat. Evil reptilian humanoids in tight black uniforms FTW. :cardie: Followed by Bareil and Damar. While Siddig is very handsome, Bashir never did it for me.

VOY is the worst when it comes to male sex appeal IMO. Chakotay is handsome, but none of them really have much charisma. Although Tuvok is starting to grow on me in the episodes when he's losing it, like the one in which Brad Dourif's character is introduced. :vulcan: I haven't seen much of ENT so I'll refrain from any judgments.

STXI - Spock, of course. :adore: The others I would rank something like this: Robau (I don't know why I forgot to include him in the poll :cardie:), McCoy, Pike, Kirk, George Kirk, Sulu. Eric Bana in RL would rank high, but as Nero, not really.

Here's another thing about Ezri--"Fun-Facts" aside:

As far as Jadzia is concerned, her attractiveness, I think, increased when she appeared vulnerable. Examples: (1) In "Equilibrium", when Jadzia, afraid of being alone, goes to Bashir's quarters...which eventually leads to her taking the other bunk. It's a very touching scene...and shows that sometimes...she's not such a tom-boy after all. And (2) In "Starship Down", when Julian and Jadzia are trapped...and Jadzia admits her fears...and snuggles up to the doctor.

Alas, this was very rare for her--perhaps the "Party-Girl Side" of Jadzia saw this as weakness. As such, these moments are just a nice "oh...she's not such a cold-heart after all!"

With Ezri, on the other hand, this air of vulnerability is often the norm. While she can be tough-as-nails when she has to be (like when she holds the gun at the squirming Vulcan in "Field of Fire"--and looks hot doing it!), still...

There's an innocence to her, central to her personality. Due to this, it's very painful to see her suffering--like in "Afterimage", when, in the temple, she breaks down, and bursts into tears.

As far as I'm concerned, this vulnerability kinda gives one the desire to...take her in one's arms and reassure her...tell her it's going to be all right. And this makes it all the more rewarding to see her triumph.

Dr. Bashir was definitely eye candy (I think that was the term used above). Alexander Siddig, who played him, is even better looking now. (Of course, there's a certain resemblance between my husband and Siddig ... so I might be biased.)

He's much hotter when he's not playing Bashir, but someone more tougher and more mature. Julian was just... too green and boyish.

Don't bump threads like this please. It can be considered spamming.

Threads on a BBS live and die at their own pace. There's no need to administer artificial resucitation. ;)

    Anyone notice something?

Ezri always seems to be precisely two votes behind Seven--and that they both are now pretty far ahead of the others....

Are people just voting for both, now?

^ Could be. We had a weird discussion in the VOY forum a couple months back in which one guy (I haven't seen him around lately) was claiming that all heterosexual men - all heterosexual men - if they are honest, would naturally gravitate to a beautiful curvy woman (e.g. Seven) over a delicate-looking, ethereal girl such as Kes, or Ezri in this case. This is assuming everything else was equal - you know, assuming the va-va-voom woman wasn't disqualified for being a horrible person or annoyingly stupid or something. I mean, he was really adamant about it. He talked about evolutionary tendencies and mate selection and all this stuff.

If anybody else in the thread, male or female, suggested something like, "But gee, some guys prefer this type of physique or that one," he would say that they would only do so only because they were "settling" - that all men wanted the va-va-voom girl, but they'd settle for someone else because they would think they didn't have a shot at the VVVG.

It was a very strange conversation.

Anyway, my point - and I do have one ;) - is that I actually think that just as most women are capable of admiring more than one type of man, many or most men are perfectly capable of admiring more than one type of woman. And maybe the persistent near-tie between Ezri and Seven is indicative of this?

I would say that it might also be a matter of the girl's nobility, integrity, and strength of character. Physique might have a factor (it's what captures a man's eye), but The Girl You'd Fall For should depend, I'd think, on character. And...it also depends on one's sense of self-confidence.

    As The Philosopher Said:

Somehow...as "cool" as Seven is, she doesn't really strike me as a "heroine". Many might disagree--but I just don't see her that way. She seems too bitter to me, too cynical.

I see a great deal of heroism--or potential for heroism--in the more "innocent" female characters of Trek. An air of clear-cut devotion to what is good, coupled with an enthusiastic optimism for the future--is, I think, a central element to heroism in such characters as Ezri, Rand, etc.

Wow, this thread has really turned philosophical. :bolian:

I always found it weird when someone tries to convince you that every single male or female in the world is attracted to the same things. And that they who and what you're attracted to better than you do. :wtf: But it really gets weird when they start bringing dubious anthoropological concepts into it... According to them, we're all cave(wo)men deep down, supposedly all really looking to reproduce, and looking for a mate who will have the best seed or be the best hunter or whatever. :cardie:  I guess birth control is just a sign of delusion. :shifty:

Spamming is spamming, bumping threads is bumping threads. Everyone knows the difference. And I see no similarity.

But just like people can be attracted to women or men of different body types and different types of beauty, people can also be attracted to different kinds of personality. Someone might be more attracted to Seven's colder persona an find her more interesting than Ezri's innocence and cuteness. (The "Jadzia or Ezri?" thread on the DS9 subforum revealed that the opinions on the merits of their respective personalities were ever more split than the preference for the looks of one or ther other. ) The idea that everyone in the world must be attracted to the same kind of personality (and if they don't seem to be, they are just shallow and playing more attention to looks) would be as wrong as the idea that everyone must be attracted to the same kind of look (and if they don't seem to be, they are just 'settling'),

Besides... it's not like people can only be attracted to someone that they find admirable and wonderful as a person. Even in RL, I don't think it's that uncommon for people to be attracted to or even fall in love with someone while being aware that they have some less than admirable qualities, or habits you find annoying. But when it comes to fictional characters, it's not like we're looking for fictional people to date or marry. ;) And since are free of any such concerns, so we can indulge our fantasies, including the darker ones. How often do fictional villains or anti-heroes become sex symbols? In fiction, just like the most interesting characters are not necessarily the ones you'd want to hang out with in real life, some of the characters you drool over might be those you wouldn't want to have a relationship with, or in some cases, you wouldn't want anywhere near in real life.

Oh, I very much disagree. I think there's the potential for heroism in many different personality types and personally, I think that it's often more interesting when that heroism comes from someone cynical and conflicted like Seven.
