Klingon C8 Dreadnought and Hydran Frigate

Hey guys. Just wanted to show off some new ship models for the Star Fleet Universe and provide a bit of information about them.

This is the D7's big sister, the C8. Designed as a heavy hitter and fleet command ship in time of war. The C8 was first seen near the beginning of the Four Powers War, a large conflict between the Klingon, Lyran, Hydran, and Kzinti empires which was the prelude to the General War. Like all Klingon ships, the boom section is seperable, but on the C8 the boom section actually possesses a full-fledged warp engine, as opposed to a small impulse engine. This makes the C8 boom very capable of escaping and defending itself in the most dire of emergencies.

This next ship is the Hydran Frigate. The Hydrans are a race of stout tripedal aliens that border the Klingon Empire and are long-standing enemies with them. They were also the first empire to develop a powerful warp engine compact enough to fit inside a shuttle, thus creating fighters. The Hydrans use fighters extensively on almost all of their ships, unlike most of the other Alpha Octant empires who prefer to keep fighters on dedicated carriers. Hydran Stinger-II fighters are well known and respected(if not outright feared) by many Klingon and Lyran opponents.

The Hydran frigate, like most Hydran ships, comes in two flavors. One version is the Hunter-class, pictured here, which sports short-ranged yet powerful Fusion beams and an enlarged complement of fighters. Its counterpart is the Cuirassier-class, which carries fewer fighters and employs deadly shield-puncturing Hellbores.

I *really* like that Hydran fighter, but I have to tell you that I saw the pictures before I read the text and I thought that it was some sort of Federation diplomatic courier vessel because of the shape of the hull and color scheme :)

This last ship is the Hydran War Destroyer, a cousin of the frigate. As the General War marched on, ships grew deadlier, and fleets grew bigger as warring empires developed the logistics to support them. The Hydrans, like most empires, realized their frigate design was becoming quickly outclassed by new ships their enemies were fielding.

The war destroyer was an attempt by the hydrans to update their frigate for the changing environment of the General War. More space was added for additional systems and weapons, and its durability and defenses were beefed up considerably. The design eventually paved the way for the heavy war destroyer, a further uprated version and the zenith of Hydran frigate design.

Pictured is the Rhino Hunter-class, the Hellbore-toting model of the war destroyer.

Thanks. Hydran ships tend to vary rather wildly in shape from class-to-class, more than most other empires. The reason for this is because most of the Hydran economy and its industries are control by large trade guilds, which have their tentacles in everything, including designing their race's warships. Different guilds have different notions on how a ship should be built, which has resulted in a fleet with a diverse selection of designs. The main thing all Hydran ship designs have in common is that they are built very, very tough.

As far as color scheme goes, Hydran ships all share the same blue base color for their hulls. The color of the ship's stripe indicates which fleet it is a part of, though. I tend to do white on my models because I think it looks the best, but there are fleets with stripes of red, orange, green, silver, purple, etc.

Always loved the Hydrans. On the last one posted, those hellbore cannons look like giant RCA jacks. Is the ship plugging for the enemy?

Adam, just because Paramount has this ridiculous rule in place that forced StarFleet Battles to live in an alternate put parallel universe doesn't make it not TOS. Paramount can kiss my butt. I am 38 years old. I played StarFleet Battles when I was a kid. It's TOS, just like FASA games is TOS. Franz Joseph is also TOS. Anything that kept the fire burning while Gulf Western, the then parent company of Paramount, fumbled around trying to decide what to do Trek is TOS. SFB fits in with TOS rather nicely and embelishes it. Contrast this to Star Trek 11 that takes so much it away by rewriting it. I love the work that you are doing with SFB. Keep it up.

I agree with you. I appreciate later Trek, and I enjoyed STXI despite the fact that it was an over-hyped mindless action flick. But in my own personal canon, none of these things are the true continuation of TOS. The Star Fleet Universe is. It's far more interesting, expansive, and well thought out than official later Star Trek(for the most part). The General War, The ISC pacification, the Andromedan invasion, Operation Unity, the Omega Octant, all of it. And there's still a great deal to come.

The C6/8/9 looks pretty neat, and the Hydran ships look the part also.

Will any of your new batch of Klingon hulls end up with Kestrel paintjobs?
