Question about robot suit.

Ever since I saw G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, that got me to thinking about the robot suits. They're very much like transformers, but more powerful than all human beings all combined.

That led me to wondered about this technology in the future. Will we ever going to have that kind of power that will lead us to win the battle against Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations?

Those terrorists won't be able to win against that kind of power if we got that robot suits. Hell, I would love to have that robot suit, so I can come and kick their asses for what they did back in 9/11!

Are we close to having robot suit from becoming a reality?

they can build an exoskeleton as shown above, but it is huge, clunky, slow, and the power source is enormous, but sure, given time and technology advancements, it will be miniaturized like everything else

Why put soldiers in the exo-suits at all? Why not have them interface with them remotely and have the "robot-soldier" controlled by a trooper miles from Harm's Way? If the suit goes down, another rolls off the assembly line, the same trooper logs onto it remotely and keeps the battle going.

Indeed, this may be the future as well. Certainly seems to be headed that way with what remote drones can do now.

yeah, the exoskeleton beingable to fly would be pretty damn useful, but right now it's just a kewl gimmick, both of them.

Energy requirements for both are enormous. Even using state-of-the-art batteries would mean they'd expire in, oooh, ten minutes at a guess. And we're still some way from nuclear powerpacks.

As for the robot/exoskeleton discussion, I think there's an argument for both - the first troops in are robotic, scouts and intelligence from the exo guys.

I would have thought that remote controlled land robots could easily be defeated. A weapon capable of bombarding the robot with radio waves would be enough to interfere with the robots remote control and allow it to be destroyed or captured.

That's not a bad point. I've been giving this some thought for a story I want to write.

That was one reason I was saying about the scout/intel guy in the suit, for live on the spot assessments rather than remote assessments (drones with cameras, etc). The robots would be linked up to a mainframe-style computer that would be the unit's tactician. Now, if they were bombarded with jamming signals, as you said, then a) each robot could have onboard a small computer that keeps it going, and b) all those computers could be linked up via line-of-sight communications, turning the individual processors into one system that can at least perform a holding action until the tactician can be brought back on line. Of course, with advances in computing, maybe they could do away with the tactician mainframe and just use distributed computing across the unit. The problem there would be the processing power would go down for each robot lost in battle.

Yeah, something like this.

In matters of aggression, we will give them absolute power over us. This power will not be able to be revoked. At the first sign of violence, they will act automatically against the aggressor. The penalty for provoking their action shall be too terrible to risk. The result would be we will live in peace, without arms or armies, secure in the knowledge that we are free from aggression and war. Free to pursue more... profitable enterprises.
