***POSSIBLE SPOILARS GTFO***

Most of us will know that Timothy Dalton is going to be in Tennant's finale story, End of Time. He is apparently playing a Time Lord, having been spotted in the appropriate garb.

So, for a bit of fun, I'd like to know what folks theories are as to who he is, this Time Lord, with the face of a former 007.

Personally I think (rather boringly) that he's someone we've not been made aware of before. But what does that mean? Why is he important to Tennant's last hours? Does he signal the resurrection of the Time Lords?

Am I barking up the wrong tree, could he merely be in a flashback? Questions, questions. I'd love to know what everyone thinks. I've included a poll with some of the more common theories I've happened upon.

I think he will purely be a flashback, an instructor from the academy where the Doctor and Master attended, or some such thing.

I did not know he was going to be in it.

Good news though to be sure, Dalton is great. Thought his turn in Hot Fuzz was good, always puts a smile on my face in Flash Gordon (Freeze you bloody bastards!) and underrated as Bond, he added that hard edge to Bond that was lacking in the previous movies.

I hope he plays a baddie though, he's best when he's being a bastard.

^

That was a bit of a headfuck, because I'm always getting Pingfah and Pindar mixed up.

Flashback/Academy instructor is a very plausible idea, but I hope Dalton has more of an active role than that.

Yes, bring back George_42!

Anyway it would seem a shame to waste a great British actor on a mere flashback. I hope his character is central to the story.

Never even occured to me the names were similar.

Are you allowed more than one change a year?

Lovin' your new website.

I really, really hope it's not a flashback or dream, but rather appearing in the present. And I think he's a Time Lord we haven't met before and has no relation to The Doctor (other than being a Time Lord, of course).

I'd like to think the production company hires expensive actors to wander around the sets winding the groupies and fly photographers up. I would do that.

Hmm...I'm thinking a relative too. I just hope that he is only in the story for longer than just a few minutes.

How about an "old" #10 who later regenerates into #11

That way David could come back to play the doctor at any time in the future.

Umm, it's completely impossible to imagine Dalton as an older Tennant. Looks, build, height, voice, personality, presence - it'd be the worst casting ever. Besides, if they just wanted to have an old 10 (and I personally hope they'll show DT's Doc ageing over the rest of the specials for the same reason as you), they'd just age him with make up. Not to the 'Dobby The House Elf' extent that they did before, presumably, but with added wrinkles, grey hair, etc.

The rumor I heard a few months ago was that he's the Doctor's father.

Yes, I can definitely see Dalton as Ulysses. :)

I think he's probably just some timelord chancellor.

I doubt he's the master - why would the master be wearing timelord garb and seal of rassilon. He's never worn that before in any of his appearances on the show.

I doubt it's the doctor's father - depicting this would take away from the mystery of the doctor and seems to rub against the whole lonely god, neo-Cartmel-Masterplan idea that they've had going so far.

Omega I guess is possible, but I don't think it's him either. Each time Omega has appeared he has been masked.

The other options are possible.
