ST XII : Orci & Kurtzman still reading, not designing yet (H. Mudd?)

Re: Star Trek XII : Orci & Kurtzman still reading, not designing yet

Glad there still in early stages, no need to rush ST won't come out in May 2011 thers too much oppostion, a later summer slot will most likely happen.

There's always going to be competition when you compete for the summer crowd. I have no doubt that 1-2 weeks is all the cushion this film will need.

Would the returning zombie or ghost of Captain Robau be too much to ask for as a cameo?

Re: Harry Mudd in Star Trek 12?

Hmmm. If they were to reimagine Harry Mudd, I hope they don't make him a bumbling fool, good mainly for comedy relief, but as a dangerous, rogue pirate type, capable of giving Kirk a good hand-to-hand fight. He should be a total scumbag, dealing in Orion slave women and illegal subtances of all kinds. -- RR

Re: Harry Mudd in Star Trek 12?

Sure. But I still want him to be funny. I mean, please...his name is Harry Mudd. He can be funny and dangerous, surely.

Re: Harry Mudd in Star Trek 12?

The more interesting part of that article is about the Jay Leno Show. It's going to be AWESOME!!!!!

Re: Harry Mudd in Star Trek 12?

I can't see Harry Mudd being the "villain/antagonist". There is not enough to work with. They need to come up with a NEW villain.

Re: Harry Mudd in Star Trek 12?

It's pure speculation but, it could happen...

Grunberg wanting to play Harry Mudd is also being discussed in this thread. I will merge...

Thought I had lost my mind when I refreshed the thread I originally posted in, then saw all those other responses. Feel better now!

Again, I think if Harcourt Fenton Mudd is redone and not just an homage to the original, then I'd like it if he had a major role. As I said, a Harry Mudd who is more villainous and dangerous would be a better way to go than just a pale Roger C. Carmel imitation.

Now, I don't want to see Khan only because Ricardo Montalban's version is so good I wouldn't want to see, again, a pale imitation.

A new villain or antagonist would be preferable. The threat doesn't necessarily have to be "villainous." Spotlighting an antihero type would be an interesting direction for the next ST film, as it would go against formula, to a certain extent. Maybe a Cardassian?

As long as they don't bring back Cyrano Jones, I'm OK!

Sorry about that.

It's cool, it's cool! :techman: New ground should be broken in future ST movies. Homages are one thing, but buidling a whole movie around old characters, not so good. -- RR

PLEASE....no Harry Mudd in a major role (a throwaway scene would be fine) and no Khan...and no re-tellings of TOS episodes...let's explore some new frontiers...

I esp. second no retellings of TOS eps. There are many other stories to be told. Boldly going and all that! -- RR

Harry WAS a fairly serious character in his first appearance.

It was only later when he, Norman, and Stella showed up that he became more of a comic character.

Take a look at the earlier Harry episode with the three women and the Venus drug. Not a lot of comedy there.

With regards to Grunberg wanting the role, I had to do this...

(Yes. That's Roger's 'stache photoshopped into Greg's face.)

^ Though I'm really not big on the idea of recycling any already-done plots or guest characters, that is an interesting look -- more to the Leo Walsh end of the Harry spectrum.
