Welcome to the Church Of Ryan

I hope the sequel has a fantastic ending where the Nu-E is blown up into a million pieces.

Probably so, but still... ;)
Gotcha.:techman:

Anyway, I can't believe that I like the NuE's design better than TMP refit, and about equal to TOS one. My Playmates E is now my favourite toy- one of only two I have prominately displayed (the other is the classic pistol phaser:rolleyes:) in my living room.
The NuE is certainly closer to the original than the refit was- I just don't understand the trashing, at the very least I'd think peeps (by now) would say it was okay, even if it wasn't their favourite.

Oh, I will concede that it's not a total disaster but it's ugly compared to the refit version imo.

How is the Nu-E closer to the original with it's monstrous nacelles and minimal secondary hull? I don't get that perception, as the parts are simply out of proportion.

1) Even though gently curved from a front or back view, the pylons in NuE do not slant back at a like, 30 degree angle as in the refit.
2) The nacelles, while enlarged some in the front, and tapered some in the back, retain not only their mostly roundish shape, but also the glowing forward domes- again the refit completely changed it.
3) NuE has a deflector DISH, like the original.;)

The size of the secondary hull IS somewhat smaller, as is the length of the nacelles, but the larger overall size of the Enterprise herself more than explains these different proportions as far as I'm concerned.:techman:

I love the angles of the nacelles on the refit
I never liked the "dish" on the original
Nu-E nacelles are too bulky

Many people have said that the design has 'grown on them'. Well if it was nice to begin with, that shouldn't be the case.

Doncha think it is a 'familiarity breeds contentment' thing? I mean, if all those people hadn't eventually gotten around to loving TNG so much, I doubt the -d would have meant much to them, or that it would have gone for half a mil in auction ... I still can't believe anybody approved the design (esp when Probert had it so much better years earlier with the C-like design he did post TMP), let alone built it or liked it enough to consider it iconic. All you got to do is move around it and it goes from okay to ugahh very quickly, whereas you have to hit specific points and stop on the refit and the TOS ship to get those groan moments.

That opinion is your priviledge, sir.

As is that.
Nu-E nacelles are too bulky
Now yer testing my patience...;)

You proceed upon a false assumption. The Refit had to "grow upon" me back in '79, and I came to love it. A design that brings change, whether fundamental or not, will nearly always require an adjustment period where human fondness is concerned, be it a nice design or not.
I'm afraid your statement cannot be considered valid.:vulcan:

Good point, but there are very few groan moments on the refit, but the Nu-E is one big groan.

I think the looking down at it in dock thing (when the pod goes over the dishtop)is a bad refit moment, mainly cuz almost all miniatures look bad when you look down on them. But there are precious few baddies, agreed.

That opinion is your privilege, sir. :rommie:
