Am I the only one who likes late 60s-70s tv sci fi movies/specials?

darkwing_duck1

Vice Admiral
I'm not talking about the stuff everyone knows about like "Genesis II" and such, but the sometimes quirky, sometimes hokey, but still fun stuff like:

The Amazing Captain Nemo
Captain Nemo and the Underwater City
City Beneath the Sea
Man from Atlantis

etc...

Are the first three obscure remakes of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea?

City Beneath the Sea was an Irwin Allen production, wasn't it?

Not quite, though the titular character is indeed supposed to be THE Captain Nemo.

The first one is the shortened/edited for cinema version of a late 70s mini-series called "The Return of Captain Nemo". It featured a revived Captain Nemo in modern times, working with a secret agency within the US Navy.

Yes it was.

I'd love to have some of these on DVD, but I suspect they'll never be availble outside the "pirate" circles...

Was this the one with Robert Wagner, some genetically altered dude who could breathe underwater, and a heist involving gold bars?

When I was a kid, I would definitely watch or try to watch these shows. Even then, though, I could tell they were pretty cheesy.

Haven't seen any in years, so I can't say if I can answer the question in the present tense, as is posed in the thread title!

That sounds about right...

I miss the old TNT..the one that would play movies like these-and others, during the day, latenights and weekends...

Or WTBS Atlanta, or WGN Chicago... :)

That reminds me...WGN used to have a weekend "Classics" feature show that would play this sort of thing on Sunday afternoons, along with a variety of other movies.

I enjoyed the Nemo films at the time, although I believe the Robert Ryan flick was a theatrical release, not a tv special. The one with Jose Ferrar was the tv show. Haven't seen them for decades.

I would definately watch them again if I knew they were going to be on, I also never miss the poisidon adventure.

There was also "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun", Gerry Anderson had a hand in that one. (Lots of models!)

And one of my favorites (the title escapes me) about the spaceship crew that crash lands in the future and helps the brand "X" people fight off the hulking cave men things, with a Bazooka.
