The SYNTH myth

That fan is wrong. The synthesizer music was for Undiscovered Country. Cliff Eidelmann performed the soundtrack on a synthesizer as a demo, and Meyer liked it, so Eidelmann got the job.

Says the booklet of the soundtrack album.

I have always liked that haunting choir sound of the TUC opening track...I have the soundtrack still, and play it from time to time even now...

Surely blank discs are cheaper.

And the Nemesis score is pretty decent. But then, I'm that rarest of people around here: a person who likes the film.

Meyer was the director of TWOK from the get-go. They never considered anyone else. And I can't imagine Meyer ever even considering a synth score for the film. In fact, he speaks very specifically about his desires for the score and its grand naval feel. I suspect that synth thing is a myth.

He considered Miklos Rosza first.

That would have been amazing. Horner's good, but Rozsa was an all time great.

Yeah, but the timbre and pacing is of an earlier time. That worked with TIME AFTER TIME, and SHOULD have worked on EYE OF THE NEEDLE, but with the latter, just made it seem like the movie had recycled an old music score. He might not have workd for TWOK.

Perhaps, but I recall him having many fast paced and effective action cues in El Cid, and i think his style could have fit TWOK.
