Don't glare at me.

The thread got bumped after a thousand years in the depths of the vault.

Im pretty sure the sidekick will be back in TREK XII. Since he wore a little miniature Starfleet engineering uniform as the last movie ended I'm 99.9% certain Scotty will still be worrying about him in the next film.;)

He'll definitely be back. Its all about the merchandising baby! And Keenser is ripe for the little kids toys.

"SCOTTY SIDEKICK with Creepy Black-Eyed Staring and Skin Molting" Action Figure!

^ dunno. havent been to a toy store in a millenium--but i would have to think there will be. Its too perfect for the kids not to have one.

Have they made a toy out of Keenser for XI ?
Coming soon, looks like.

Yeah, but you replied to the same post twice, and the first was only two posts up the page from the second. :p

What would really be creepy is if Keenser is female. Scotty treats him/her like dirt. Is there any indication Keenser is male? I can't remember if anyone referred to him/her that way.

I can't recall any instance in the movie where Keenser's gender is indicated, but from the time the Esurance tie-in game to the movie was announced onward, all references seem to refer to Keenser as "he" or "him". As far as Scotty treating him like dirt, remember the close-up on Keenser after Kirk and Scotty trans-warp beam to the Enterprise; the look on his face doesn't seem to convey "great, that jerk is finally gone!"

If someone didn't remember the look, there's always the R2D2 whimpering. But Scotty does treat him like dirt; whether it's the best Keenser's been treated or whether he just ignores it is something else. It's not a nice look for Scotty; I never liked it.

I don't think there's any real meanness in it, though; it strikes me as more a friendly hard time. I've known one or two long-married couples who had something similar going on; it sounds like a lot of yelling and abuse from one side (or both), but when you get to know them, you see that it's really an expression of affection. It's not a Laurel and Hardy dynamic or an Abbott and Costello, exactly, but someone did point out that they work together like a comedy duo and that Keenser fills the role of straight man for Scotty. I think they're really supposed to be friends.

It's not just Keenser's response when Scotty beams off that shows that they're friends. Watch Scotty, just as he fades he waves goodbye to Keenser.

I think they are friends. After all, there's no way Keenser's on the Enterprise if Scotty doesn't want him there.

It's a very British - and very Scottish at that - approach to male friendship, I suppose. All insults and fighting, but woe betide anyone who actually attacks one of them.

^My dad and stepmother are like that. Anyone who does not know better thinks they are hateful to each other. They have been like that for 25 years and neither one has killed nor maimed the other.:guffaw:

I thought Scotty's sidekick was very cute I hope it will come back in the sequel imagine the sidekick running on the bridge

I've made very few criticisms about the film, but this is one of them. I don't think it's an improvement on TOS Scotty.

Keenser should end up like the Scooby Doo of the Enterprise gang. The tiny little alien who can slip into odd environments a lot easier than humans in Starfleet uniforms and sniff out trouble.

Now all we need to do is turn Scotty into a reefer-toking burnout with a green shirt and bell bottoms and we've got a hit!

^ Funny you should say that....Pegg did once do a Shaggy thing in the first episode of Spaced back in '99....
