I'd actually like to see Rachel Weisz as Selina Kyle she looks kind of like the Selina from Long Halloween/Dark Victory/When in Rome.

Batgirl I could see, though probably played by someone older. One possible scenario is the film would end up with her getting shot (though by someone other than the Joker, of course) and then come back in movie 4 as Oracle - or spun off.

Reading a couple of the reactions to this rumor, I'm starting to think Nolan should abandon any plans to do a third Batman film. Clearly after the utter perfection of TDK, anything that follows is going to be condemned. They shouldn't even bother.

I'm not saying that to troll. I honestly feel that in the wake of petitions by fans calling for the Joker to be retired from ever being used in movies again, and the OTT fawning over Ledger's performance (the most explicit case of James Dean Syndrome we've seen since James Dean; it was a good performance, I'm not denying that, but the beatifying of it went well beyond the pale of what would have happened had he not died. We'll see it happen again with the Terry Gilliam movie, too.) ... I don't think it is possible for the next Batman movie to live up to TDK. I bet a lot of people aren't planning to see it because they only bothered with TDK because of Ledger.

Better to fold when you're a winner, IMO. But the studio wants to make more money, so they'll be learning the lesson the hard way.

No Batgirl needed nor wanted so it won't happen under Nolan's watch. I would also suggest any move in this direction would have Bale saying NO NO NO to the franchise and leaving.

I am inclined to agree, at least partially. I am sure Nolan will make a movie that fans and critics will enjoy. However, given the universal acclaim of TDK, it will be nothing but a let down in comparison.

On Topic. Screw Robin and Batgirl. Batman works better alone and doesn't need to babysit any sidekicks in the movies. The last thing I want is Robin taking the tumbler out to pick up girls or Batgirl being played by someone like Alicia Silverstone. The further the next movie gets away from Batman and Robin the better.

I think Nolan and Bale fear this : They rack their brains and come up with the hyperfect way of bringing in the junior partners. Its so damn good, they kick themselves for not thinking of it sooner. The dark edge is kept, the action rocks, and it rivals TDK for sheer awesomeness. Even tests well among rabid fanpeople. Hell, Ledger's ghost comes back to endorse it. Then, something happens to Nolan, job-wise, health-wise, you take your pick. A hack-to-be-named plus extreme executive meddling follow, making 1997's fiasco look like 1989 by comparison.

I don't think that's fair. Having seen a James Dean movie ("Rebel Without A Cause"), I can totally understand now why James Dean might be seen as an overrated actor who has achieved iconic status in large part because of his early death and his looks. I liked the performance, but it's pretty obvious watching that movie that his performance isn't too great and most of all a rip-off of his idol Marlon Brando (circa "On the Waterfront").

Ledger, on the other hand, gave a performance in "The Dark Knight" that was truly exceptional and unforgettable and I do believe it would still be regarded as something iconic even if he hadn't died. He may not have won an Oscar or even been nominated by one, but that performance would have been legendary even if he lived for a long time after. I suppose some bad performances down the line may have sullied it a little bit, but I can't imagine it ever losing its deserved status as one of the all time greatest screen performances.

The only way I can see Batgirl working in the Nolan style is if she is 'inspired' by Batman, much like the wannabes in the hockey gear at the start of TDK. More competent, more capable, but still an amateur next to Bruce Wayne's professional.

Rather than a trusted ally, she's a complication.

As long as Nolan is directing, I HIGHLY doubt we'll see Batgirl in the film. I'm sure everything he says and believes about Robin applies to Batgirl as well.

That's too bad. I like both of those characters, and there are plenty of instances in the comics where they're shown to work in the more serious versions.

Not everything about Batman has to be instantly associated with Adam West and camp.

Even though I love that show too.

Why? There's nothing wrong with it. Granted, I too, prefer a "more serious" Batman, but I still really like the Adam West show. It was only a light-hearted spoof, after all.

Also, the current animated incarnation of Batman ("Batman - The Brave and the Bold") has some campy elements, but it is excellent, and in my opinion, just what the world needs in an animated Batman for this day and age. "Batman: The Animated Series" was awesome in the 90s, but trying to recapture its vibe in 2004's "The Batman" was ill-advised and most of the time came off as an inferior rip-off. On the other hand, "Batman - The Brave and the Bold" feels fresh and respectful to the character while being fun and not taking the character and his world as seriously as the movies are.

Ugh and ugh. If WB didn't learn their lesson with Alicia Silverstone in Batman and Robin...I hope that Nolan would walk rather than trying to put the character in by force, moreso if they wanted her to play Babs.
