Paula Abdul quits American Idol

I think this is the death knell for the show. The first hit came with slight decline in ratings which prompted putting a forth judge on the show. I don't know how the ratings were last year, but the chemistry and arguments among Paula-Randy-Simon were an essential part of the show. Kara is attractive and a competent judge, but she doesn't have much chemistry with Randy or Simon. Part of the fun of the show was trying to decipher what Paula was saying and watching Simon's reaction.

I don't blame her for going for what she thought she was worth. I think if AI was willing to pay Ryan Seacrest all that money, for doing just about nothing, why not pay Paula? Her fame helped launch the show.

I don't think the show will collapse all of a sudden, but I think there will be an erosion beginning next season that will continue to increase. Perhaps Paula jumping ship before it sinks is not a bad move.

Now, if they get rid of the rest of the judges, the host, and end viewer voting, they might have a show worth watching.

2 words: contract negotiation

Not the first time, kids.

Just look at the manufactured press they got with the Futurama crew last week...

Who is going to bring the drug-induced hysterics now?

As for Kara, she was less than useless last year.

I'd actually hoped they would replace the judges (except Simon, who I feel is the only one who is truly, even brutally honest, though even he has his problems) and Ryan, but I'd hoped for someone better. Kara is so full of herself! She also spent half the time sounding like Randy and the other half like Paula that she was truly superfluous.

On the other hand, my wife and daughter are catching up on So You Think You Can Dance and I have a violent reaction every time I hear Mary Murphy, so I think it could be worse than Paula or Kara...

The ratings decline last year were incredibly slight, and had nothing to do with the 4th judge and everything to deal with people are watching less network TV.

I think we will see her again, this is just for ratings. Let's be real, what else does she have to do?

They could offer me her job. I'd take it in a heartbeat if they offerd & I'd take a whole lot less then what they were giveing her & I'd out Simon, SIMON! (It's fun to kill peoples dreams!)

Boy, I never would've guessed after bringing in another female judge that they would possibly low-ball and replace worthless Paula Abdul with her completely in one year. That thought never crossed my mind once last season!

Bah. I guess it's official now. At some point, her reps kept saying, "Rest assured, everyone. Paula is here to stay!" Even the producers denied rumors that Kara was Paula's replacement. I will personally miss Paula's presence, her phony compliments, and the way she sugarcoats everything. I gotta admit she's more interesting that way and brings balance and chemistry to the panel of judges.

I also recall reading that Simon is asking for nearly 100 million to continue with the show.

Please. Paula's incoherent ramblings have always been completely pointless. Trust me, two episodes into next season you'll forget Paula Abdul ever existed.

I don't watch the show, so I don't care.

If you don't care about the show, why did you reply twice to a thread about it?

You say that now, but who else is going to tell us about the magical colors in a singer's voice?

Same here but I do care that they keep running long and into my next show's time slot.
There is nothing in that show that makes it have to run an extra 5-8 min longer that can be trimmed down.
