Houston Oilers

The Oilers are now the Tennesee Titans. I'm not a fan of either, I am a charger fan, but I was wondering; the oilers, under Warren Moon, made it to that AFC championship game against the Bills. The Oilers went up 35-3, only to lose 38-35, or something like that.

Here is my question, if you care about such things. Had the Oilers won that game, and gone on to win the Superbowl, would the Oilers, with the new found success of being superbowl champs, had stayed in Houston, and remained the Oilers. Or do you think the movie to Tenessee would still have happened?

Bud Adams was making demands on Houston that the city refused to comply with. First he wanted the Dome redone, and they did it. Then we had to re-do the re-done dome again. Then he wanted a new stadium, and when he didn't get it, he left town while we were still paying on the improvements to the Astrodome.

I think he would have left anyway, and good riddance to that sorry sack of shit. The Texans will win a super bowl before the Tinbreds will anyway. :techman:

Thanks for the answer. I didn't know the 'city' politics. We are having those here in San Diego as well..

I think Jacksonville may be next up. They can't sell out anymore, and the NFL refused to cut them any slack on the no TV rule. Jag fans will not be able to watch their home games on TV this season unless a ton more tickets are bought. I feel bad for anyone who loses their NFL team. Houston was lucky we got a new rich owner that paid the NFL owners untold millions in bribes, er uh "donations", to vote for us to get that 32nd franchise.

Bite your tongue, Spider. :p You're just jealous that the Titans are a classy, respectable organization that are consistently jockeying for playoff relevance, instead of a never-made-it-to-the-playoffs joke.

(That said, I'd be happy to trade owners... Bud Adams is kinda a slimeball, we're just fortunate to have so many good people lower down the chain :sigh:)

Bud Adams is the anti-christ. However, yall got one of the best coachs in the NFL, gotta hand you that.

Agreed...Jeff Fisher (god) working for the Anti-Christ (Adams)...must be a cold day!!

I miss the Houston Oilers. But then I still miss the AFL (American Football League) as well.

in your dreams..

i also heard it came down to a mano mano showdown between bud and the then mayor of houston.

in the end to get a new team houston still had to have a new stadium.

but yeah for awhile i think it helped that bud was in houston and there were other people in between.
also helped they sussed out real quick how much an idiot pepper rodgers
was when it took snyder years.

anyway due to the 50th anniersary of the founding of the afl the titans will be wearing the earliest oilers uni's including this weekends hall of fame game.

as for what would have happened if the oilers had won that game and went on the sb .. shrug..
but i do know the titans got revenge on the bills with the music city miracle.

as for the jags they have been helped with the nfl allowing them to
tarp over a good number of their seats.
but they are still having issues.
one of their most infamous games was several years ago when they were in a playoff hunt.
they needed to beat the texans but a large percentage of their fans didnt show up and the texans beat them.

I love Pookha, I hate the Titans. Let there be no confusion in this matter.

In the meantime, Titans suck and Texans rule. I'm sure Pookha will have something to say about that.

also love spider..
but really i just have to wait for him to drool.
:p

by the way planning on going to titans practice tomorrow.

what a shame you guys will be such loosers this year. LOL

I can't NOT wait for the season to begin. We shall see what we shall see. the Toronto Bills will kick your ass in the hall of Fame game this coming weekend. LOL

It's sad that Houston screwed up building the team for the first few years and is starting to get it right. Unfortunately, they are in a tough division for football as well as conference.

Like a lot of teams, the Texans are starting to have a few injury bugs in training camp. We are already signing has beens, retired players, and otherwise unsigned free agents for the corner back position.

Here's a clue: when you play the Texans, pass a lot. LOL

Hall of Fame game is tomorrow. A chance to see the 'Oilers' in action again...

I was just listening to MARTY SHOTENHIMER on Sirus NFL...the guy was taking about the old days when the AFL and NFL were playing interleague games in the pre-seasons, but before the merger...cool stuff..

Rob

I'm pretty excited about the AFL Heritage stuff they are doing this year. I was born in '80 so I'm way too young to have seen any of it in person, but apparently it was the cat's ass back in the day.
