Lucasarts discussion thread

If you are a gamer (especially old-school), then you know that Lucasarts has a good track record for making quality games (especially their adventure games). So, I decided we need a thread dedicated to their games. Since Star Wars takes up a sizable portion of LA's game library, I think SW deserves its own separate thread. So, what non-Star Wars Lucasarts games do you own, which are your favorites, your least favorites, etc.?

The adventure games are awesome, that goes without saying.

I liked Mercenaries. They're kids games were fun (the Lucas Learning ones).

The Monkey Island series would be the only non-Star Wars Lucasarts games I own. MI3 would be my favourite as it was the first game of the series I ever played.

I picked up the SWs and non-SWs Lucasarts box sets back in the late 90s, good fun.

Their point and click games were great for a laugh, does anyone know how to get the old DOS games like Day of the Tentacle working on WinXP? I tried a few old games that Win95 could handle only to find that XP doesn't like them one bit.

Day of the Tentacle and Sam and Max tie easily for my favourite, the humour was spot on. I take it if I like those I should try the Monkey Island games? (which were IIRC Lucasarts).

Gothos:SCUMMVM is your friend.

Day of the Tentacle was probably my favourite of the lot - I liked the humour and the setup with three characters in the same place at different points in time.

Also love for Loom which was too short and simple but utterly charming.

Recently played The Dig and apart from the sappy ending, it's a great, atmospheric sci-fi story.

Never really got into the Monkeys for some reason, although i can certainly acknowledge them as highlights of the genre.

Old Lucas Arts games are most often golden. The graphic adventure games stand alongside Sierra's as the best of their day. The X-Wing/Tie Fighter games were excellent. The late 90s featured a lot of bad-to-mediocre games from the company.

Many newer Lucas Arts games are alright, but they're basically just a publisher of Star Wars games these days. The best ones are created by companies like BioWare. It's nice that the new Monkey Island game is being developed by ex-Lucas Arts creators who left when they stopped making their own games.
