http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-obama-posters,0,940643.story What do you think about this? I myself think it's in poor taste, but I think it's funny that the media never got this upset when it was G.W.Bush as the Joker. Plus it was talked about on CNN and how they (CNN) cryed ''Racism'' on whoever made this.
"Racism" is more a platform than a social issue these days. You see how people freak out over what Don Imus says, yet Al Sharpton has said much worse for a longer period of time and no consequences befall him. I suspect Earl Ofari Hutchinson didn't think the George Bush Joker/Hitler/vampire/whatever was politically mean spirited and dangerous. Double standards are a way of life now, especially when there are a lot of people who should list their political preference under religion.
Free speech is controversial now? I didn't really see anyone raising much of a stink about any of the stuff people did with Dubya's picture...
That's what I'm saying. Did the media ever get upset over that painting of G.W.Bush kneeling over an oil drum being Sodomolized by Osama bin Laden? NOPE! In fact they called it FREE SPEECH! *edit* sodomolized is from squidbillies people, get a sense of humer.
GAWD I've met some of THOSE people. A lot of them say they have no religion, but they do, it's there PARTY.
A cupple of years back there was a painting (or picture, cant remember) of Bush being raped by Osama.
Actually the poster is pretty funny in an ironic way, because The Dark Knight's Joker couldn't have been any more opposite to Socialism...
Rush thought there were a lot of similarities... http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_080409/content/01125108.guest.html
OBAMA: "Don't talk like one of them. You're not! Even if you'd like to be. To them, you're just a freak, like me!" ROMNEY: "You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. " MCCAIN: "You crossed the line first, sir. You squeezed them, you hammered them to the point of desperation. And in their desperation they turned to a man they didn't fully understand." BUSH: "He's the hero America deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight."
I think if people spent the amount of time they do looking for things to get offended about on more productive things the world would be a paradise. I never understood why we take seriously anybody complaining about what there opposition is doing.
So, this is what passes for intelligent political discussion in Misc? Maybe I should say dick or pussy so SPOCKED can run around banging his head while closing this thread.
I don't see what the problem is, or how this is in any way racism. Artists have been creating political satire and caricatures for as long as the office of President has even been around. As has been brought up, this would have never caused such an uproar if it were Bush or McCain depicted. How it is racist is beyond me. How does depicting him as The Joker have anything to do with the fact that he's black? Why is any slight against a black person automatically seen as a racist action by the perpetrator? I'm getting pretty goddamn tired of the race card being pulled in this country.
If you want intelligent political discussion in Miscellaneous why don't you go start a topic featuring some instead of criticizing a mod for an unrelated situation? All I ever see you do is post a bunch of nonsense bitching about mods and board policies, so how about doing something productive for a change? As far as the "controversy" over the Obama Joker poster goes, people are getting overly offended over nothing. Just because it depicts a black man in whiteface doesn't instantly make it a reversal on the racist blackface theme if the character in question they are parodying actually wore white makeup absent of any racial motivation. Now, is the poster stupid as all hell? Yes. The Joker was all about chaos and anarchy, and whatever your position on socialism is it's pretty damn far away from anarchy. So it doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense as a criticism. But it's neither racist nor over-the-top as a political critique, so all the people up at arms about this (none of whom are actually with the Obama administration, I might add) need to relax. Their chosen candidate is not above criticism, stupid or not.
It's far from racist or in poor taste. It's barely even generic political satire, since neither Obama nor the Joker have anything to do with Socialism. The only thing offensive about it is the bad makeup.
I don't know if there is any racist intent behind it since I don't know who created it, but it seems unlikely. However, it's pretty nonsensical IMO. I don't see what the Joker has to do with socialism, other than to tie the word "Joker" to Obama the image itself appears to have no meaning. It's very ineffective satire and trades more on the popularity of the Joker character than anything else. They may as well have stuck up posters of Obama and written "idiot" under them, because this mismash of disparate concepts is not a great deal more intelligent.
