Where do I know this melody from?

I have watched my very first Doctor Who episodes with William Hartnell and, although that is besides the point, actually quite liked them.

Anyway, afterwards I set out to youtube to see what became of the companions, since there is hardly a chance that I will be able to watch the later episodes. I found this one video in which the Doctor says goodbye to Susan; the guy who uploaded it, I assume, has rescored the video. I feel like I should know the melody! As if it is from another show or movie I've watched a dozens times, but I just can't put my finger on it!

Since this isn't really a Doctor Who question (should I be correct in my belief that the music has nothing to do with Who), I decided to post this here. A smile to the one who can give me the answer!

The video in question.

I've never heard of that music before, however the chord progressions are very much in common with various love songs of the last 20 years or so. Certainly sounds like something Michael Giacchino would write - he uses soft piano in a lot of his scores.

^ Possible, but then where would I know it from?

Not that I am adverse to the idea of me merely imagining to recognize the melody, but for now I'll stomp my foot and be unchangeably certain that you are wrong. :p

And if I'm closer to being right? ;) :p

^ Then I can always put my hands over my ears and shalalalala you away. Don't make me do it!

In that case, I'll spare you that embarrassing fate and say that while it does sound familiar to me too, I've no idea what it could be. :D

Very well!

Then let's just sit here and wait until somebody more able walks in. :p

It did remind me of "Happy Ending " by Mika (although it clearly isn't that). Sad song, though.

I must admit to having never heard Happy Ending before, but you are right. It is kinda reminiscent of it. Maybe it is one of the love songs you mentioned, I really wouldn't know. Maybe I have just heard it in passing once.

Yup, definitely driving me insane. Where are all the people having the answer? Is no one interested in smiles?

The melody is 'Together We Will Live Forever' by Clint Mansell from "The Fountain" Soundtrack.
