BTW, this thread has inspired me to ask a side question.

How many here are proud to be hated? For example, I look at all the hate for the Flyers and it feels awesome. If the Flyers were loved by everyone, they would be doing something wrong.

I'm actually quite disappointed that the Ravens have only been mentioned three times in this thread. I'm sure they would be too. :(

Oh, and Terrell Suggs agrees with me about the Squeelers:

I don't know if "proud" is the right word exactly, but I do enjoy people's hatred of the Lakers.

I'm definitely not proud that people hate the Yankees, nor do I enjoy it. I still don't understand why they do, really. What, did the Yankees piss in a lot of people's cornflakes or something? What did they do to *earn* that hatred? Win too many World Series?

That and buy all the talent they could because they know no other team can beat their offer price. Honestly, if you don't know why people hate the Yankees, you really don't know enough about the Yankees.

Sorry, I'd help you out, but I don't hate the Ravens at the moment.

I feel unabashed joy at the hatred. Generally speaking, only winners are hated -- the Raiders being a clear exception. The team hasn't been a winner in 6 years and they are still mentioned in this thread quite a bit.

All you haters should keep this in mind; one day the Darkness will again rise to engulf and ensnare you in a wave of painful and humiliating defeat.

BTW, the phrase, ___-Nation was originated (in sports at least) by a Raiders fan.

That the Flyers are loved by anyone shows that something is already wrong.

And of course Pens fans love being hated by Flyers fans. Winning the Stanley Cup has only been slightly more satisfying than dismantling your team's squad of half-witted, incompetent goons two playoff years in a row. :p:p:p

So? The team has the money, they can do with it what they like.

And we're allowed to hate them for it.

Well, I'm from Philadelphia, it's in my blood (or whatever it is that oozes through my veins).

Oh no, not really proud. There is no pride in not being able to cross safely Marseille with a Paris jersey. It's a well known suicide possibility  (actually I shouldn't laugh at it, it's really a dangerous idea).

I'd hate the Yankees even if we weren't allowed to hate them. Then again, I'm a Red Sox fan so that's a given.

PS-- Alidar: You made post #87. That's like wearing a Crosby jersey, man. ;):p

It depends on what you mean by "hate." I mean, I wouldn't enjoy real hatred, the kind that backfires on innocent fans merely wearing the wrong jersey, the kind that results in violence or looting or someone yelling at me...

But I don't mind so much ordinary sports-fan hate, i.e., "I don't like that team because it tends to beat my favorite team." It does at least show somebody's paying attention, and that one's team is considered interesting and/or potentially powerful. I mean, how many people in the history of the Bigs have cared enough to hate the Cleveland Indians? And until they started really winning, most fans (aside from Yankee fans, of course) kind of cheered for the Red Sox or at least didn't root against them. They were so, you know, sad and hopeless and hapless...rooting against them was like spanking a cute little puppy.

Ouch, why do you have to be so mean?

And to think if I had waited one post, I would have had 88, which is Lindros, which is a bit more forgivable.

If it makes you feel better, I was very close to listing the Ravens...

But when I think of how much more strongly I feel about the Patriots and Steelers, I realize dislike of the Ravens or Browns is a pretty small thing.

I don't know, part of me wants everyone to love my teams. Then there is the other part of me that feeds on people's hatred like a fat man feeds on McDonalds.

Since I love one of those teams everyone loves to hate, I'm certainly not blind to the reasons why people hate them. I'm a rational person, so I see where the hate for the Cowboys comes from. It's one of the weird things going from baseball season to football season. The Texas Rangers get hardly any national press. If one goes to ESPN or the like, it always Yankees or Red Sox this or that. Yet during football season, the cowboys are always in the news whether they deserve to be or not. Oh well, at least they're not the Eagles...

Oh and I think my "hate" for the LAAAAAAA Angels is growing by the day. Would you guys lose already.

My vote? No. I don't expect I'll get my way forever, mind you, but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

I actually rather like Texas, though - probably because of Nolan Ryan.

Well LA is on one heck of a run, and Texas is doing pretty well too. Texas is probably playing it best baseball in a decade, but it still might not be enough. Nevertheless this month is going to be fun!

And I agree about Ryan. He is a real class act, and I don't think it's a coincidence that the Rangers have had this kind of year now that he is the ball club's President.

:( We'll have to work on that.

At least you hate the Steelers. That's some small comfort.

I can't stand the Nebraska Cornhuskers. I always root for who plays against them. The NE fans are the worst- they gloat over the top when they win yet are the whiniest bunch of babies when they lose. There is something wrong with a state that makes college football a religion.

I'm hoping for a good losing season this year.

 I agree about the Flyers, and would add the Flames (under Keenan, otherwise I just dislike them), the Rangers, and the Maple Leafs.

In the MLS, I increasingly despise Toronto FC - fortunately, Vancouver has an MLS franchise coming up.

English premiership: Manchester United and Chelsea. All teams are financed by corporate money, but rarely is illegality so close to the surface as with Chelsea. A shame, because I like Frank Lampard as a player.

World football: Italy. That is all, just Italy. I still think Zidane was right.
