Glory be to the Ryan; and to the Holy Enterprise:
As it was in 1966, is now, and ever shall be,
Trek without end. Amen.

Okay, joke's out of the way.;)

Let's discuss the good stuff he did on Trek, Transformers, & the upcoming Avatar and John Carter of Mars, or anything else he did that you liked.

John Carter concept art can be found here:
http://philsaunders.blogspot.com/2009/02/more-john-carter.html
(Although he didn't do the actual art itself- he designed ships & stuff.)

Go here for Avatar:

And, no negativity or design-bashing, or I'll use this:

I really like the new Starship Enterprise now, at first I was unsure but now I think it is great, I think that Church designed this Enterprise with the idea that it would be improved and given multiple refits over the years which is cool.

Does this church have altarboys?

Because then we're headed for a SHITLOAD of problems down the road.

That's an LOL if I ever saw one coming!!

But with Church on hand for nuTrek, I just find it kind of weird that he also worked so much on the Star Wars prequels. Not that it matters. It just seems kind of strange... like if Andrew Probert had designed the Millenium Falcon.

I absolutely love the Enterprise. Church really did a fantastic job.
I think so too, even if one of my friends (you know who you are, Herbert) thinks I'm a "sellout.":vulcan::lol:

I... see your point.;)

:brickwall:No, NO!!! i'm in a mirror 'Verse or something!!!!!!!

Someone redesigning the Millennium Falcon?

Uh-oh. That'll go over well on these boards.

Or if Ralph McQuarrie had designed the Enterprise.

Every time I started nitpicking the nuEnt design, I just looked at that Planet of the Titans picture for a few seconds, then flipped back to the picture of the nuEnt. It made me realize how good we have it and how much worse it could be.

My first take on the new design way back when it came out wasn't positive. But it grew on me. Now, that picture above is my computer's wallpaper. The more I look at it, the better I think it looks.

I always said the refit Enterprise looked like it had both the grace and power of a thoroughbred horse. Church's Enterprise emphasizes power over grace, and to carry out the analogy, it is more of a Clydesdale than a thoroughbred. But Clydesdales are beautiful horses, too.

The "nuEnty" is just a mishmash of the TOS and earlier movie Enterprises with a few new accentuations here and there. I no longer dislike her. I'd happily use her as computer wallpaper.

I was a bit concerned at first, but the more images that got out, the more she started to grow on me. What really sealed the deal for me, though, was the reveal and then seeing her in action. Church did just fine.

Church took the best of both Jefferies and Probert and did what he could. And the result wasn't half-bad.

I was just relieved that it still resembled the original Enterprise. My biggest fear was that they were going to go in a completely different direction like Batman Begins did with the Batmobile.

My first 'love' was the '66 NCC 1701, but I instantly fell for the '79 'refit' of the movies. Thankfully, the '09 nuEnt fits right into the family.

I couldn't stand the nuEnty at first...but then she grew on me. I still have SEVERE issues with her insides and the way her decks and rooms look, but from the outside she's pretty damn beautiful.

Back in '79 my only real issue was the deflector dish. I got used to the tilted pylons & rectangular nacelles rather quickly, but that wasn't my childhood deflector dish!!! It took a month to get used to.
This time around it's the curved pylons.
*sigh*
It's always sumthin'.

For me, the pylon updates weren't a problem on either design. I can remember back in the early 70's, as a 6 year old, trying to build the model and get the pylons and nacelles just right. I remember thinking 'how in the hell are these skinny things supposed to support these big, long, heavy tubes'.

I could never get 'em perfectly aligned with the primary & secondary hulls until I developed a method to hold them in place with scotch tape overnight while the glue set. I swear, I made at least ten of them in that decade. The refit model in 1980 technically had skinnier pylons at the secondary hull point, but they slid into a a sort of recessed "tube" in the secondary hull- SO much better than forcing a pin into hole in the pylons end from the inside!!!;)

I can't WAIT to get the NuE model end of this year.
