A Child's life

Of all the child characters to appear on TREK(s), and I don't mean Wesely/Jake, but guest stars, which child character stands out the best. And no, Lal is not valid for an answer. A child character PLAYED by a child...

None of them. I remember child-centric episodes were almost always terrible. And when they weren't terrible, they were moderately average.

What a great question! The one that immediately came to my mind is JONO, in "Suddenly Human". I loved how he and Picard eventually bonded. That scene at the end where Jono takes off his gloves and touches his head to Picard's was great!

Great one. I know the episode where the boy's mother dies, and so he befriends work, but the mother comes back as an alien entity seems to be a clunker for many. My wife and i still tear up when we see this episode. I think the kid from that episode did a great job.

That episode - I think it's called "The Bonding" - has the distinction of being Ron Moore's first ever episode of Trek - and any TV show.

As for the question... I really can't remember any particularly good child actors from any of the shows. Unless, of course, we count the movies (including the latest one)...

Spock kicked butt in Star Trek and, though some disagree, I actually like kid Kirk, too.
The Bonding was a good episode for me as well. It was one of the first TV shows to question 'child abuse' accusations by well-meaning busybodies.

The Borg baby. (I kid, I kid.)

Seriously? Child nuSpock from the movie was wonderful "I trust you have new insults prepared for me today?" Loved that.

Does nuChekov count as a child? He was entertaining.

As far as TV, I thought Mezoti (one of the Borglets on VOY) was great. She was so creepy as a half-assimilated Borg drone, and then when they de-assimilated her she was such a little rebel ... snarky and fun. She really made the most of her very limited screen time. I missed her when the younger Borg kids left the show.

I also liked the episode Future Imperfect, where that alien child creates a 'future' which involves Riker waking up "16 yrs in the future". Can't really say why...just liked that one alot. Except for the ridiculous costume the actor ended up wearing at the end.
The child in that episode was pretty good, at least i thought so.

but yeah, i tend to agree with RyuRoots, most of the episodes in all Trek incarnations that involved children sucked verily.

Does "Rascals" count?

I was thinking of rascals :techman:

Sure it does, and I think, despite what the nay-sayers may say, this was a cute episode, and my kids love it. Some trekfans, not naming names, but some of them forget that Star Trek TNG was supposed to be a family show. So any episode featuring kids is just lamented...oh well..I like most the episodes with kids because I have kids, and they like those episodes; which is the point sometimes, don't you think?

Me too. I thought it was sweet how Riker said at the end, "I'll always think of you as Jean-Luc". I actually liked the kid's true form, because it looked more convincingly alien to me than all the races on Star Trek that are clearly just humans with weird foreheads.

And even though they said "she's turning into a woman", Miri (from the episode of the same name) seemed very child-like to me and I liked her. The kids in her episode were way more watchable than the horribly lame villains of "And the Children Will Lead" (I think everything about that episode sucks).

The kids in "Rascals" were great. I loved when kid Picard got pissed at the idiot computer and when he threw a fit so he could talk to Riker. Kid Guinan teasing kid Ro was cute too.

Maybe my favourite children on TNG were the kids stuck in the elevator with Picard in "Disaster". It was fun to see Picard thrown into that uncomfortable situation since he generally didn't like children, and really funny (because it was so in character) how he turned them into an efficient survival unit of a team. The bit at the end where he says, "Number One" and both Riker and the little girl from the turbolift think he's talking to them (because he appointed her as his Number One when they were trapped) was adorable.
