*Best* movie ever featured on MST3K

Ok, nothing with Joe Don Baker in it as a central/main character in it is worth watching.

;)

Trekker, watching Kitten With a Whip.

In the Raymod F. Jones novel (fixup from a short story it seems,) there was a great deal more about Earth's inadvertent enlistment into interstellar war, the logistics of war, the flaws of computer planning for war and an actual set of choices about withdrawing from the war and/or changing to intuitive guidance (human, if I remember correctly.) And some seriously demented rants about unions, too.
I read the first short story that made up the novel just last week, actually-- it's collected in Winston Engle's Thrilling Wonder Stories, Volume 2. I dunno if it's any good or not; MST3K had left me entirely unable to take it seriously.

Phase IV, godzilla vs. the Sea Monster and The Crawling Eye, all from the early years of the show, are movies that I prefer to watch on their own, and in the case of "Sea Monster", in its native language. I consider all three to be good movies in spite of their shortcomings ("Phase IV" is slow, "Sea Monster" is somewhat silly, "Crawling Eye" has astoundingly crappy special effects during its finale).

Best MST3K episode: Manos: Hands of Fate. (Isn't this universally renowned as the best?)

Not by anyone who's seen the Space Mutiny episode, I would guess. ;)
Prince of Space is the best episode. :p

"Ha! Ha! Ha! Your guns are useless!"
"It is my considered advice that you discontinue your use of said weapons! Ha! Ha!"

"Allow me to reference my earlier codicil on how your weapons are ineffective! Ha! Ha!"

"When will you learn? Your guns have no effect on me."
"Have I mentioned that?"

"Will you guys listen? Your guns don't work!!!"

"Your guns are useless, but scare the crap out of me anyway!"

I loved it when Krankor showed up during Invasion of the Neptune Men the only bright spot of that episode. That and the Hitler building getting blown up.

^I'm sorry, but that's just not true. Perhaps you haven't seen a little film called "Walking Tall".

Exception to the rule. :)

You know, Anne Margret was gorgeous in KwaW.

She had nothing on nothing Mamie Van Doren in Girl's Town.

Big McLargehuge!
Bob Johnson! Oh wait.

Ha, oops.

Been ages since I've seen it, but I do fondly recall the sci-fi premise of an insect hive mind developing sapient features being pretty darn interesting. Albeit, as you say, slow. And iirc the end is really weird and makes little sense.

It's with a little queasy feeling that I watch Neptune Men. I mean, how unbelievably fucked up would the average American find it if, in some crappy goofball alien invasion flick, the director used stock footage of September 11th? And the bombing of Japan was between about three orders of magnitude worse than that!

Edit: wikipedia sez that the WWII footage wasn't used on the MST3K version. Then where was the Hitler building supposed to come from?
