The Final Ongoing Star Trek Box Office Thread

It did slightly better than estimates for the weekend with 440K. Foreign boxoffice for the weekend was around 78K (which I think is higher than it was last week)

Looks like they might've pulled a few too many theaters for this last weekend, although the difference by now is 100-200 K max.

On the domestic front, it seems quite likely that both The Hangover and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will overtake Star Trek within the next week, which will put ST at #5 for the year thus far.

On the global level, Trek will probably hold steady at the #7 position for a while. Also, we're within arm's reach of a $380 million worldwide total! :bolian:

Ice Age 4 is already greenlit, but Fox might as well greenlight Ice Age 5 and 6 at this point. Just think, about a decade ago, Fox had to shut down their animation studio because massive, massive losses. They made a good purchase in buying Blue Sky.

Also, now that The Hangover is definitely going to pass Trek, there goes its chances of being in the Top 5 for the year. Not too big a deal, but would've been cool.

Indeed, it would have been cool. Ah well, I imagine it'll stay in the Top 10; either way, we've certainly got nothing to complain about.

Star Trek took in $69,254 yesterday, down about 20% from last Monday, which isn't too bad at all considering the lower number of theatres it has this week. Actually, yesterday's per screen average was higher than last Monday's -- in fact, it was higher than last three Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Star Trek beat expectations. It had a lot of competion and beat several films mos thought it had no chance of beating

Warner Brothers must be awash in cash from The Hangover. Talk about bang for your buck.

11. The Hangover
Domestic: $247,073,766 / 71.4%
+ Foreign: $98,800,000 / 28.6%
= Worldwide: $345,873,766

35 million dollar budget. This is the type of thing that make the studies go
But remember how bad T4 did, so I guess it's a wash for them this summer.

WB didn't spend much on T4. They paid $50 million for the domestic distribution rights and I'd guess at least $75+ million on marketing.

If you omit the disappointing overseas take, TREK looks even mightier than it already is. HAD the movie reached 700 or 800 million worldwide we might actually have looked at a potential Best Picture nomination even if it stood no shot of ever actually winning.

Domestic gross for Tuesday July 28: $80,747. That's up 16.6% from Monday, and the per screen average was $263, the highest non-Friday/weekend per screen gross since July 2nd.

Much more succinctly put... :)

Still playing at my local IMAX--through the 6th of August at this point.

^^^^
Damn, you must have beaten me to the punch by seconds! Well done!

It's playing at the Ontario Science Centre IMAX screen in Toronto until Labour Day, I think... maybe I'll go see it there at some point before then. :D

The per screen numbers are great, which is a testament to how well the film has been received in IMAX. Expect the next movie to do gangbusters in IMAX.
